WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION VINDICATES PRESIDENT LUNGU ON THE ‘NEW NORMAL’.
* *
....the President’s resolve is premised on a delicate balance of avoiding a public health catastrophe while ensuring that people do not get vulnerable says Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.

SMART EAGLES
The coronavirus may never go away and populations will have to learn to live with it just as they have HIV, the World Health Organization has warned - as the global death toll from the disease nears 300,000.
And Zambia’s Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has indicated that WHO’s position resonates with President Edgar Lungu’s position to deal with the pandemic while harnessing other sectors of the economy and ensuring that they remain functional.
Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu coined his government’s position as the “New Normal.”
“The Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu has been consistent that there is need for us to ensure that in abetting a public health crisis, we do not expose our people to other lethal situations such as hunger and poverty and also that there is need for us to take a cautious approach to return to normalcy informed by the Public health.
“And this has been his consistent message , he has further said that he is carefully watching the Pandemic through an analytical eye and that the plan that he has put in place is a scalable one, it’s adaptable and it’s adjustable.” Dr. Chilufya stated during today’s COVID-19 routine updates.
The Minister stated that the President’s resolve was premised on a delicate balance of avoiding a public health catastrophe while ensuring that people do not get vulnerable.
“And what the WHO said resonates precisely with his position that we need to reset to a new way of doing things to ensure that we balance up the need for us to avoid a health catastrophe while we are ensuring that people do not get vulnerable to other ills such as poverty . So a delicate balance is the aspiration that he has pitched .” He added .
Meanwhile Dr. Chilufya has announced that the country has recorded 208 new cases of Covid-19.
The new cases are from the mass screening conducted in Lusaka, Nakonde and other parts of the country in 3 batches .
Minister said this is out of the 903 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
This leaves the country on a cumulative total of 654 cases with seven deaths, 134 recoveries and 523 active cases .

TONGA CHIEFS HAIL PRESIDENT LUNGU'S COMMITMENT TO STOP THE FURTHER SPREAD OF COVID-19..... As Kalembe and team donate coronavirus preventive materials worth k20,000 to Chirundu District.
Chirundu/ May 13th, 2020
By Smart Eagles
CHIEFS Chipepo and Sikoongo of Chirundu District in Lusaka Province have hailed President Edgar Lungu for what they termed as a dedicated fight against the further spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic that has ravaged the world.
The Chiefs who spoke through their representatives in their various localities when Patriotic Front PF Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Daniel Kalembe paid courtesy calls on them separately, said Presiddent Lungu had shown exemplary leadership during the continued fight against the spread of the virus without politicising it.
Chief Chipepo who spoke through his representative said that his Chiefdom was committed to working with President Lungu's government having witnessed massive development in the area across all sectors.
Chief Sikoongo who spoke through his Deputy Chief said he was humbled by the way the ruling party had been conducting their donation activities in Chirundu and other parts of the country with the involvement of the traditional leadership.
"Mr Youth Chairman sir even as you go back to report to His Excellency the President, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, please tell him that we as a traditional leadership in Chirundu are forever humbled by the manner in which his party PF has been conducting its donations having to involve us the traditional leaders from the begin of their programmes as opposed to the conduct of some other political parties and their leaders who are just going on and about to make donations minus notifying the chiefs who preside over their subjects on a daily basis," Chief Sikoongo said.
Chief Sikoongo narrated how some named political parties have been going round making donations and handing out materials to people who can even afford to buy their own masks at the expense of those who are vulnerable and unable to afford.
Meanwhile Patriotic Front Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Danniel Kalembe has thanked the two chiefs for their continued cooperation with not only the PF in the fight against the COVID-19 but also government departments mandated to undertake preventive measures in Chirundu.
Mr Kalembe said that it is President Lungu's desire to see a safe and healthy Zambia devoid of the deadly coronavirus that has so far claimed seven (7) lives in Zambia since the first case was recorded.
Mr Kalembe donated assorted COVID-19 preventive materials valued at twenty thousand kwacha.
The materials include Hygenix Hand Washes, Sanitizers, Face Masks and 250 litre drums and supporting stands among others.
And Chirundu District Commissioner Stafford Kayame has thanked the PF Provincial Chairperson and his team for their involvement in the prevention of the further spread of COVID-19 through the various donations made to Chirundu.
"We as a District administration are grateful to you Mr Kelembe and your team for the commitment and help rendered to us during this fight against the COVID-19, we want to urge you therefore to continue helping us in this fight whenever you can because this disease knows no politics"
