Resignation letter!
I stopped over at our farm yesterday. One of our longest serving worker - Banda - walked to me and handed over an envelope. I opened and found it was a handwritten resignation letter in English. It says he has found a plot in 22 miles and wants his dues so that he can go settle there.
"Zikomo aBanda," I said as I thanked him for being a very good and honest worker for 15 years.
He looked puzzled especially when I asked him when he intends to leave the farm.
"Nanga naleka nchito boss.." he said.
"But kalata yanu says mwaleka nchito," I answered.
He then let the cat out of the bag by saying the letter was written for him by his Bemba workmate Chola!
"Ni Chola ananilembela kalata..." he said, adding that he was asking for advance to pay for the commitment fees for his plot and not resignation.
I laughed!
