Zambia Open Community Schools
We exist to enable the poorest and most vulnerable children of Zambia to access quality education.
ZOCS is a vibrant Zambian NGO, based in Lusaka, fighting for the right to education for the orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia.
RECEIVED WITH APPRECIATION: Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) on Thursday (12th December, 2013) received a donation of three computers from Prima Reinsurance PLC. The computers are valued at K7, 500 and they will be distributed to three community schools supported by ZOCS.

ZOCS is extremely grateful for the support received and is encouraging other organizations in the private sector to follow in the footprints of Prima so that the issue of ICT in the education sector will become a thing of the past.
ZOCS in partnership with Human Education International(HEI) and Ministry of Education Science,Vocational Training and Early Education(MESVTEE) are today in Choma 13th August,2013 upto Friday,17th August,2013 conducting in-service trainings in pedagogical skills with teachers in Community Schools.This is in view of providing and improving quality education in Community Schools.
The fact is that,EVERY CHILD,EVERYWHERE,HAS A RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION!

A vast majority of Community Schools are in poor state with school buildings that are falling apart,have no clean running water and basic materials such as desks,chalk boards,teaching and learning materials etc
Under Community Development ZOCS enables households to mitigate the impact of poverty and improve livehoods by assisting through micro-credit loans so that they can develop Income Generating Activities(IGAs)
One of the three ZOCS pillars is to develop Community Schools infrastructure through service delivery to improve the quality of education in Zambia
ZOCS Executive Director,Mrs.Harriet Miyato has urged Parents Community School Committees(PCSCs) from various Community Schools to take an active role in fighting for the rights of Vulnerable and Orphaned(OVCs) Children in communities if quality education has to be enhanced and 6th Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) has to be attained by 2015.She said this during the just ended sensitization meeting on Education Act 2011,PF Manifesto page 8,Operational Guidelines of 2007 and monitoring policy checklist(advocacy) at ZOCS offices.
ZOCS in partnership with Human Education International (HEI)sponsored a radio programme at Maranatha radio in Kabwe to look at upgrading of Community Schools in Zambia and the in-service trainings for untrained volunteer teachers that ZOCS conducted in Chibombo.

ZOCS Executive Director Mrs.Harriet Miyato and the team was following- up with the PEOs and DEBs in Muchinga and North-Western provinces on the implementation of the former Permanent Secretary's(Dr.Mulungushi) to monitor standards in Community Schools,Operationalisation of the Community School guidelines of 2007 and the upgrading of Community Schools according to the PF Manifesto page 8.
Zambia Open Community School in partnership with various kind partners shall continue advocating for every child especially the girl and children with disabilities to receive quality education.....you can be part of the change we want to see!
