Cuban Ambassador to Zambia, Her Excellence Mariledis Morales, has called on stronger relations with Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board. This is in a bid to increase the number of Scholarships being given to Zambia for Zambians to study in Cuba.
She said this when HELSB Chief Executive Officer Dr John Machayi paid a courtesy call on her in Lusaka.

The Tras-union (Credit Reference Bureau) Chief Executive Officer Ms Mildred Stevenson, paid a corutesy call on Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) Chief Executive Officer Dr John Machayi this morning.
The two CEO's discussed among other things the agreement between the two institutions on the listing of student loan defaulters on the Credit Reference Bureau.

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board Chief Executive Officer, Dr. John Machayi, paid a courtesy call to Palabana University this morning.
This is part of his farmilialization of University's that are on student loan scheme.
Dr Machayi was met by Mr. Kelvin Musonda, the Acting Director of Palabana University. During the meeting, they deliberated among other issues the distribution of student loans to the university and accommodation concerns for HELSB sponsored students. The CEO also informed Palabana University management on a planned program in the upcoming year focusing on financial literacy orientation program for students.

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board held a stakeholder engagement with SAIH and Zambia National Education Coalision ZANEC this morning.
SAIH is a Norwegian solidarity organization of students and academics in Norway.
HELSB and ZANEC have been collaborating in areas of interest in terms of leaner sensitisation in secondary schools.

Dr Machayi and Professor Mwitwa exchanged notes on HELSB sponsored students at the University.

The team later toured the campus to get first hand view of the University.

The Minister of Education Hon. Douglas Syakalima has announced the reduction of interest rate on student loans from 15 percent to 10 percent per annum beginning 1st January 2024.
The reduction on student loans will apply to all beneficiaries.

Yesterday, on November 15, 2023, accomplished Algerian scholarship recipients, along with their parents, participated in orientation presentations at Mika Hotel in Kabulonga. A total of 40 students were chosen to pursue various programs at different universities in Algeria.

The Chief Executive Officer Dr. John Machayi yesterday paid a courtesy call to the Zambia Army Commander, Lt Gen Sitali D Alibuzwi. This marks the commencement of the student loan repayments by beneficiaries employed by Zambia Army. The funds recovered will be used to support more students in need of Government sponsorship.

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) and ZAMTEL yesterday signed a contract that will enable HELSB sponsored students and new applicants make payments online by using *115 # short code using ZAMTEL money.
The introduction of online services will significantly improve service delivery replacing the current manual process that oftenly lead to congestion at HELSB centers.
HELSB has transitioned to a completely cashless system.

Successful Moroccan scholarships applicants and their parents listening in to presentations at the orientation program that was held at Mulungushi Conference Centre. A total of 93 students have been selected to study at different universities in different programmes in Morocco.
