ZFDS Gynaecology and obstetrics specialist Dr. Chota Phiri has been camped at Mambwe General Hospital where a number of procedures including Bilateral tubal litigation (BTL) have been conducted.
BTL is a surgical procedure for females in which fallopian tubes are cut, tied or blocked permanently to prevent pregnancy.
The District Hospital had pre-booked a number of cases drawn from various villages after counseling and obtaining consent was done and what was pending was a specialist to be able to conduct the said procedures.
The beneficiaries include 32-year-old woman of Kamwanjili village who gave birth to a set of twins on Saturday 24th February 2024 at Mambwe District Hospital, Eastern Province. This was her fifth pregnancy and fourth consecutive set of identical twin girls.
After delivery, she requested that permanent contraception be done on her.
“I was delighted when I heard that a Gynaecology and obstetrics specialist was sent to our district. I really wanted to access permanent contraception by having my fallopian tubes tied.
My husband and I agreed that this was the route we should take and even if children are a blessing ,we could no longer afford to have more children because we have limited income sources to fend for the children.
We have eight (8) children in total now." she narrated .
The procedure was successfully done on her by the surgeon with the help of the Anesthetist Mr. Jordan Bwalya.
REVIVE MOBILE HOSPITALS - CHIEFTAINESS MSORO PLEADS ZFDS🌟
Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Msoro of the K***a people of Mambwe District in Eastern Province has appealed to Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) to utilize mobile hospital trucks.

Chieftainess Msoro emphasized that if the initiative is revived there is hope that equal access to medical health services for all can be attained.
"Our district is rural and for it's population, travelling to the nearest health post, doctor or hospital is often an insurmountable problem in terms of distance and the relatively high cost of public transport.
But I am of the view that revamping of such facilities can be able to provide medical services to those who live hundreds of kilometres from alternative, fixed-location hospitals around the country.
I recall that they were equipped with X-ray machines, laboratories and even a surgical theatre, independent power and water supplies,
Using of such model is the best vehicle for the country to attain universal free health care,"she said.
Meanwhile ,ZFDS Mambwe team lead Samuel Siyanga informed the chieftainess that from facilities serviced people did respond positively.
Dr.Sianga reported that from the patients screened in the chiefdom ,sexually transmitted diseases (STI's) was very common among the adolescents.
