REDAA Grant-Call for Proposals

REDAA( Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia) invites proposals for locally led initiatives to improve evidence, tools, and governance that can help people and nature thrive together in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

▪️All proposals should positively address action for nature and climate and gender equality and social inclusion.

Deadline: 31 July 2023, 23:59 British Summer Time (UTC+1)

We are pleased to announce REDAA’s first grant call will open on 14 June 2023. This call focuses on ‘medium-sized’ Project Grants of between £200,000 and £500,000 (GB Pounds) over two to four years. Projects are expected to start from 1 January 2024.

REDAA will fund research-to-action initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia that are locally led and help both people and nature to thrive together. This work could be focused on improving evidence, using new tools or strengthening governance systems.

All proposals should positively address integrated action for nature and climate, and gender equality and social inclusion. Each proposal should focused on one or more of the thematic priorities:

1. Local research and capability for research
2. Resource and land use assessments
3. Business models

28/02/2023

Attention bamboo enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and environmentalists from across the world, this year’s European Bamboo Expo 2023 will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on June 2-3, 2023, at the Dietrich-Keuning-Haus in Dortmund, Germany.

Starting the first Friday in June, the European Bamboo Expo 2023 will host hundreds of professionals who have all joined forces to shed some light on the planetary benefits of bamboo, with speaking topics & exhibitions ranging from the agricultural & commercial benefits of this versatile plant, to climate change mitigation & global warming.

Deemed “the first bamboo trade exposition in Europe,” this highly-anticipated celebration of bamboo is open to the public and will feature some of the most notable names and brilliant minds in the fields of environmental science and climatology, including Fred Hornaday, Jana Skokan, Robert van Kats, and Sanne Eekel. An in-depth, detailed list of speakers will be released at a later date.

Despite its recent surge in popularity, bamboo is still a relatively new material in the fight against climate change – a fact that event coordinators would like to resolve sooner rather than later. Attendees to this unique experience encompassing everything related to bamboo will enjoy the following lineup of festivities, activities, and merchants:

Bamboo craft booths & DIY projects
Bamboo gardening & large-crop harvesting
Live concerts and entertainment
Information about giant grass bamboo and reforestation
Details about bamboo integration into small communities and neighborhoods
Culinary treats created from and designed around bamboo
Bamboo-crafted products like musical instruments, furniture, and sustainable housing structures
…and so much more!
Potential exhibitors who are interested in signing up for the European Bamboo Expo 2023 can choose between three different available packages and price points, depending on the level of space, publicity, and overall exposure required by the vendor:

Silver Sponsor Package – 2500 Euro (2727.30 USD)
Gold Sponsor Package – 3750 Euro (4090.95 USD)
Platinum Sponsor Package – 7500 Euro (8181.90 USD)
The deadline for registration is Monday, April 10, 2023. Forms can be found here. Additional daily information surrounding the European Bamboo Expo 2023 can be found on the event’s page.

I could go on and on...it is resilient, thrives in harsh conditions, does not require chemical fertilizers and pesticides, does not compete with food crops for prime land, you can harvest annually without the need to replant....endless, endless!

01/08/2021

1. Bamboos have the advantage of raising the water table because of their shallow, webbed roots that hold water and release it slowly into the ground where eucalyptus has a searching taproot that follows water underground.
2. In a bamboo plantation you can practice agroforestry. Bamboo is friendly to other crops especially in the first two years before it shades out sunlight (think picking mushrooms in a gum plantation).
3. Bamboo matures faster and fastest tjan any other plantation timber resource in 3-7 years.
4. Bamboo is reported to release 30% more oxygen into the
atmosphere and sequesters more carbon dioxide per unit area.
5. Bamboo is more versatile, with over a thousand known uses.
