The first world conference on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in 1994 helped create the awareness that reproductive health is a human right. Over the years, attempts have been made to extend services to all
persons; however, lapses persist in service provision for all in need. Recently, countries have been encouraged to target minority groups in their reproductive health service provision. However, studies have rarely attempted to develop
deeper insights into the experiences of deaf men and women regarding their knowledge of SRH. The purpose of this
study was to develop an in-depth understanding of the knowledge of deaf persons regarding services such as knowledge of contraceptive methods, pregnancy and safe abortion practices.

What is Disability Inclusion?
Including people with disabilities in everyday activities and encouraging them to have roles similar to their peers who do not have Disabled, is disability inclusion. This involves more than simply encouraging people; it requires making sure that adequate policies and practices are in effect in a community or organization.
Inclusion should lead to increased participation in socially expected life roles and activities—such as being a student, worker, friend, community member, patient, spouse, partner, or parent.
Socially expected activities may also include engaging in social activities, using public resources such as transportation and libraries, moving about within communities, receiving adequate health care, having relationships, and enjoying other day-to-day activities.
Why is This Important?
Disability affects approximate 70 Thousand, or nearly 1 in 4 (26%) people in Zimbabwe living in communities. Disability affects more than one billion people worldwide.1,2 According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, people “. . . with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory [such as hearing or vision] impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.”
Zero to Discrimination
Disability is not inability
Recognize, celebrate and ‘stand in solidarity’ with persons with albinism
Persons with albinism deserve to have their rights to life and security protected, as well as the right not to be subjected to torture and ill-treatment. Education and awareness-raising campaigns can help combat superstition and stigma associated with albinism.
Zimbabwe Albino Association Zimbabwe Albino Mission Trust
Albinism is a relatively common genetic condition in Zimbabwe, a tropical country in southern Africa. Those affected have little pigment in their hair, skin or eyes, in sharp contrast to the normal dark pigmentation
"Patricia M. Lund, Health and education of children with albinism in Zimbabwe, Health Education Research, Volume 16, Issue 1, February 2001"
DID YOU KNOW?
In Africa, being born with albinism can feel like a curse. Albinism is a genetic condition affecting the genes that produce melanin, the pigment responsible for darkening and protecting the skin. Without melanin, people with albinism are prone to continuous, severe sunburns. The resulting incidences of skin cancer are appallingly prevalent. Albinism advocacy groups say that more than 90% of people in Africa with the condition die before they reach 40 years old.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Going to school gives girls choices and opportunities in life, allowing them to play an active role in their communities and break the cycle of poverty. Girls who are married are unlikely to be in school. Education, including comprehensive sexuality education, is essential for girls to be able to make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being.
