Understanding GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)
What is GERD?
GERD is a chronic digestive disorder where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation and discomfort.
Symptoms of GERD:
- Heartburn
- Regurgitation of acid or food
- Chest pain
- Difficulty swallowing
- Coughing or hoarseness
- Sore throat
Risk Factors for GERD:
- Obesity
- Hiatal hernia
- Pregnancy
- Smoking
- Certain medications
- Spicy, fatty, or acidic foods
Prevention of GERD:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Avoid trigger foods
- Eat smaller meals
- Avoid eating before bedtime
- Elevate the head of your bed
- Quit smoking
When to See a Doctor:
- Persistent symptoms despite lifestyle changes
- Difficulty swallowing
- Chest pain
- Unexplained weight loss
- Chronic cough or hoarseness
Treatment Options:
- Lifestyle changes (diet, eating habits)
- Medications to reduce acid production
- Surgery in severe cases

Remember cholera is real

Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhoea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated. It is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae usually found in food or water contaminated by faeces from a person with the infection.
Common sources include:
Unclean water supplies
Vegetables grown with water containing human wastes
Raw or undercooked fish and seafood caught in waters polluted with sewage
Direct contact with infected faeces and ingestion of it.
Symptoms of cholera can begin as soon as a few hours or as long as five days after infection. Often, symptoms are mild. But sometimes they are very serious. About one in 20 people infected have severe watery diarrhea accompanied by vomiting and stomach cramps, which can quickly lead to dehydration. Although many infected people may have minimal or no symptoms, they can still contribute to the spread of the infection.
Seek medical assistance if you suspect cholera.
