Capevalley Properties fined for illegally operating as an estate agent
A USD$200 fine was imposed on Capevalley Properties, a property development company, for operating as an estate agent without the required registration.
The company was accused of breaking the Estates Agents Act [Chapter 27:17], and lawyer Tafadzwa Ngoro represented the company.
The case concerned the unsanctioned selling of residential stands at Swallowfield Farm in Norton and was heard by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.
Capevalley Properties was hired by Isaac and Amos Chiduku, the farm’s joint proprietors, to oversee the construction and selling of the stands.
However, Capevalley Properties was not registered to operate as a real estate agent, according to an investigation conducted by the Estate Agents Council (EAC).
Despite this, the company collected fees from clients and landowners, which prompted EAC to report the incident to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
The court fined Capevalley Properties after it was determined to have operated illegally.
