Did you know that IFRS 18 was issued in April 2024 and will be effective from 1 January 2027. One of the new key requirements is the presentation of operating profit as a subtotal in the statement of comprehensive income. A quick analysis of eight random ZSE listed entities conducted by TAS showed that only 75% presented the subtotal in their annual reports for FY 2023. Does your entity’s current financial reporting comply with this requirement of the new standard? What compliance gaps can you identify for your entity?

The long awaited IFRS 18 is here!
On the 9th of April 2024, the IASB announced that they had finished work on IFRS 18 - Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements. The new standard changes the way in which entities present and disclose their financial information, thus making the information more useful and comparable between entities. These changes will allow for better investment decisions. IFRS 18 is effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, however early adoption is allowed.
The TAS team participated in the development of the new standard and is ready to rollout IFRS update trainings and implement the new standard.

In August 2023 the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issued Lack of Exchangeability, which amended IAS 21 The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates. This comes as a relief for most Zimbabwean accountants who have been struggling in determining correct exchange rates. If you are one of those practitioners affected, have you asked yourself the following questions:
1. Should I early adopt even though effective date is 1 January 2025?
2. What methods acceptable by IFRS will I apply to determine the correct exchange rates?
3. What impact will this have on my financial statements?
4. Do I have to restate my prior year financial statements?
5. How will I disclose this new impact?
If these questions affect you, join the Training and Advisory Services Annual Corporate Reporting Conference to be held from 15th – 19th of November 2023 in Durban. To register contact us on [email protected]; 08688007098 or 0773461503.
