In an effort to enhance healthcare standards and the quality of patient care, and in recognition of the role of doctors in improving the quality of the healthcare system, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has established an advisory committee comprising 14 prominent doctors specialising in various medical fields. This initiative is part of the Department's efforts to strengthen communication with on-the-ground healthcare practitioners, leveraging their expertise to identify opportunities for improvement and to develop new standards and guidelines. The committee aims to improve patient outcomes by providing strategic insights that anticipate the future of healthcare in the emirate, thereby reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global centre for healthcare research and innovation.

عطفاً على قرار الهيئة الاتحادية للهوية والجنسية والجمارك وأمن المنافذ بمنح مهلة لمدة شهرين لتعديل أوضاع مخالفي أنظمة دخول وإقامة الأجانب في الدولة ابتداءاً من 1 سبتمبر 2024، تعلن دائرة الصحة - أبوظبي اعتماد إعفاء المخالفين المتقدمين بطلبات تعديل أوضاعهم من غرامات الضمان الصحي، وذلك للذين تمت الموافقة على طلباتهم.
وتهيب الدائرة بكافة المخالفين الاستفادة من فترة الإعفاء للحصول على الموافقة وتجديد أو استخراج وثيقة الضمان الصحي وذلك في إطار حرصها على توفير خدمات الرعاية الصحية لجميع أفراد المجتمع في أبوظبي. 
In line with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security’s decision to grant a two-month grace period starting from 1 September 2024 for violators of the country’s entry and residence regulations to adjust their status, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi announces a waiver of health insurance fines for violators, provided their requests for status adjustment are approved. The Department urges all violators to seize this opportunity to obtain approval and renew or secure a health insurance policy, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring healthcare services are accessible to all members of Abu Dhabi’s community.

Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center, in collaboration with ART Fertility Clinics, has marked a significant milestone by successfully performing the UAE's first paediatric ovarian preservation procedure for a young leukaemia patient. This pioneering procedure preserves the 7-year-old's future fertility before undergoing a bone marrow transplant for cancer.
This achievement highlights the importance of collaborations between the specialised healthcare providers and their role in delivering comprehensive healthcare.

Reassuring the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi’s continuous efforts in the field of organ transplantation, integrating the use of science, technology, and best practices in the sector; Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with a team of experts from Cleveland Clinic in the US, has performed its first simultaneous robotic kidney transplant procedure for a donor and recipient using a single robot. The procedure involved two UAE Nationals, a donor and recipient who are related, with the recipient diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. This achievement is a testament to the Emirate’s efforts to provide the latest treatments and improve patient outcomes, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading healthcare destination globally.

بحضور معالي منصور المنصوري، رئيس دائرة الصحة – أبوظبي، عقدت "آيروس" اتفاقية شراكة مع الجمعية الدولية لمرض هنتنغتون و"بريلينيا ثيرابيوتيكس" بهدف إطلاق تجربة سريرية لمرض هنتنغتون، وهو مرض جيني يقود لاضمحلال الخلايا العصبية في الدماغ وتدهوراً شديداً في القدرات المعرفية والجسدية، وستكون هذه التجربة هي الأولى على الإطلاق في دولة الإمارات والمنطقة باستخدام الدواء التجريبي بريدوبيدين، لنشر الوعي حول هذا المرض واستقطاب المزيد من العلاجات المبتكرة للأمراض النادرة في الإمارة وخارجها، ووضعها في متناول المرضى وأسرهم.

In the presence of H.E. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, IROS company has signed an agreement with the International Huntington’s Disease Association and Prilenia Therapeutics to launch a clinical trial for Huntington’s disease (HD), a genetic disorder that leads to the degeneration of neurons in the brain, causing severe cognitive and physical decline. This trial is the first-ever in the UAE and MENA region, using Prilenia’s investigational drug, pridopidine, aiming to raise awareness about HD and help bring innovative treatments to support patients and their families in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

The agreement was signed at the DoH stand during the BIO International Convention 2024, that recently concluded its events in San Diego, USA.

To improve health outcomes for children worldwide and ensure they receive the care they need, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to advance research in paediatric oncology and gene therapy.

This occurred during a visit by the healthcare delegation to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Leveraging Abu Dhabi's advanced infrastructure and genomic data, both parties will work towards developing research and enhancing capabilities in gene and cell therapies as well as clinical research for the benefit of children with rare diseases. This will further solidify Abu Dhabi's position as a leading destination for healthcare and life sciences.
