New and aspiring catering entrepreneurs gathered in the Karoo last week for a Highfield Food Safety training session. Unfortunately, Tannie Poppie, renowned for her world-famous roosterkoek sold along the N1 in Laingsburg, was not able to make it but sent her daughter in her place.

Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, who owns a Michelin star restaurant in Nice, once flew Tannie over to teach his chefs how to make roosterkoek. Her daughter will one day take over the family business, ensuring the tradition of her beloved roosterkoek continues.

12 Students from Warwick’s Chef School in Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa, graduated on the 19th July at their Mid-Year graduation ceremony.
