"Tough Luck"
Is still on display until Christmas!

John Madu: He is one of the most respected and highly appreciated artists from West Africa. In his portraits we see self-confidence, pride and humor. He creates sceneries with great ambiguity and wit. And he is indeed a global artist, who in his paintings refers to current events in the world and shows – with subtle references - that he is a profound connoisseur of art history. John shows us pictures from the beginning of his artistic work and latest pictures. And he promises: works by him will also be seen in the AG18 Gallery.
Ayogu Kingsley. His style is often described as "super realistic". Ayo paints with the utmost precision and brilliance. But he does not depict "reality", he creates sceneries and tells stories. About people from history, whose attitude and actions have meaning for all of us - until today. For example: Steve Biko, Malcom X and Mohamed Ali. Each of them fought for against discrimination, human rights and. freedom. Shouldn’t we do that as well. Thank you Ayo for reminding and encouraging us.
Young artists in Lagos. Students of Damilola Opedun who is not only a great artist but also a passionate art teacher. He attracts and supports numerous talents. Like Atiye Afolabi and Azees Salami whose works you see here.
Oh. I should mention that Chigozie won the very prestigious Access Prize of Art X Lagos in 2021. It‘s the prize of the biggest and probably most important art fair in Africa.
Visiting Ayanfe Olarinde in Lagos. Started as a scribble artist and presents some of her most recent works to us. One of her salient themes: imperfect. Reminding us that we fool ourselves, if we always try to appear perfect.
Visiting Damilola Opedun in Lagos and getting a glimpse of his new works.
Life does not give us a promise of happiness. No matter how hard we try, we experience it only in moments. Often by chance, without having done anything for it ourselves. In fact, we can only feel happiness because we also know unhappiness. Uncertainty, danger and suffering are also part of life. "Tough Luck".

In a world filled with numerous turbulences, existences, contradictions, simultaneities, and disruptions, Brenner's images express focused, conflicting, and occasionally entwined emotions: fear, hope, and longings.
Max Brenner paints in a variety of mediums, including acrylic, oil, and oil-pencil. Stormy abstractions on canvases that he previously created using print as an underground artist. He uses rhythm, depth, and several dimensions to produce stark contrasts, vivid, flickering colors, and other visual effects. They are intricate and difficult compositions, unsettling, uncomfortable, and enigmatic stories.
