This NAIDOC Week, Celebrate the Power of Culture!
At Communication eXtra, we proudly support NAIDOC Week. This year's theme, "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud," celebrates the strong and proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
"Blak, Loud and Proud" reminds us to honor and uplift Indigenous identity. It encourages us to recognize and support the rich heritage and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This theme calls for us to share their stories, listen to their voices, and commit to fairness and equality.
Let's use this week to listen, learn, and have meaningful conversations. Together, we can build a society that truly values and respects Indigenous wisdom and contributions.

In Adelaide, there's a new group for men to hang out together.
The group's costs are paid for by NDIS. This means they'll take care of things like interpreters, supplies, and stuff you need for the activities.
Sometimes, you might have to pay a bit extra for some things, depending on what the group is doing.
The next fun thing is going to the Zoo on June 20, 2024!

Today marks the start of reconciliation week.
Every year, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated.
It is a time dedicated to building positive, respectful relationships between Australians and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' culture.
During this week we will spend time,
🌟 Teach people about the history of Australia and why we celebrate National Reconciliation Week.
🌟Listen to music that was made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
🌟 Celebrate art made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
🌟 Learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
This ties in with our Companies Reconciliation Plan and our support of building stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples'
Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge and reflect upon the painful legacy of the past, particularly the mistreatment and injustices suffered by the Indigenous peoples of Australia. We remember and honor the Stolen Generations, whose lives were forever altered by policies that sought to forcibly remove Indigenous children from their families and communities.
As we reflect on this day, let us also commit to working towards reconciliation, healing, and justice. Let's strive to create a future where all Australians, regardless of background, can thrive in a society built on respect, understanding, and equality. Together, we can learn from the past, embrace the present, and shape a better tomorrow.

My story!
I have been working with deaf people for just about all my working life. I also have travelled extensively around the world, and lived in London, the UK, for nearly 20 years, before moving back to Australia over 4 years ago.
I also have worked with Deaf people and attended Deaf events around the world, and have worked in a range of roles, and this includes the senior management of services to deaf people, and people working with deaf people.
My different experiences have given me a great insight into deaf culture and the needs of deaf people, no matter where they live or what they do.
After I returned to Australia, I worked in a range of different roles, all directly related to the NDIS. I have worked on both sides of the “fence” as a Planner at the NDIS, and with 2 NDIS service providers.
Armed with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the NDIS and on deafness in general, I decided to take the plunge and set up my own business - Communication Extra!
