Over the last year we’ve had some changes in our situation, and it’s with sadness that we have decided to sell Blackwood Books.

Blackwood Books is a legendary local business, with a history that dates back to the mid 1980s. It has had only a small number of owners over its life – that’s because Blackwood Books gets into your heart. It’s an extraordinary business, with a passionate and loyal customer base.

It is the largest secondhand bookshop in South Australia. There are currently around 50,000 books in store, over three shop fronts.

It is a viable owner-run business, with 2 years left on the current lease. The lease is secure — the shop has been in the same space for around 15 years.

It is located in a lovely small shopping centre with plenty of parking. There is an excellent cafe, a very popular pet food store, a clothing store and a dog groomers, and non-retail business including a popular laundromat (great for business on rainy days!). Blackwood Books has a Google business account, a website with a shop and social media attached, and an Abe Books sellers account.

We have made some changes since we bought it, but there are many opportunities for more changes, including

- rebranding potential
- frontage and window display updates
- further developing online sales
- events
- targeted email and social media marketing

This is a great opportunity for someone with fresh ideas and enthusiasm to extend the business. However it’s also a solid option for someone who simply wants to simply keep it going just the way it is.

We are currently looking for accommodation for a Palestinian mother, her 6 children and 3 nephews who have just arrived in Adelaide from Gaza.

Before arriving in Adelaide, the family had been displaced several times throughout the past five months as their house and whole neighbourhood were destroyed. They were living in a tent wrapped in plastic bags before leaving for Australia.
