The ELC provides students with the opportunity to study and learn English at one of the top universities in Australia.
The University of Adelaide's English Language Centre (ELC) offers a range of General and Academic English language programs, cultural programs and English teacher training services (TESOL) for international students and visiting groups.
Our Japanese study tour groups enjoyed their final week here by particpating in two of our Connections Prgrams activities - Strike Bowling and an Aussie Pub lunch.
We hope you had a great time in Adelaide and made lots of wonderful memories!
24 students and 2 volunteers enjoyed a healthy session of zumba this week and relaxed outside in the beautiful weather afterwards.
Adelaide is home to lots of interesting street art. Our students followed the street art trail and had a great time viewing the wondeful art
last week we had 93 students in total with 6 ELC volunteers attend the SANFL Sturt versus Central District game, which everyone enjoyed.
We recently ran the first event of this terms ELC Connections program, Connections & Chat @ Valentino’s. We had 23 students particpate along with five of our local University of Adelaide volunteers
Last Wednesday we had the ELC connections event- Connections & Chat @ The Uni bar with 23 students and 5 volunteers. A fun time was had by all, with some participants staying on to enjoy the live music.
We had the Aussie pub lunch yesterday at the Austral Hotel on Rundle street.
10 students and 3 volunteers all had a fabulous time and were there nearly 3 hours!!!
Connections Program ran two events recently - Pizza and Games afternoon at the ELC and also a trip to watch a local sports game, Australian Rules Football.
We're thrilled to report that our first use of the ELC selfie frame at last Thursday's PEP graduation was a success, as you can see in some of the photos below!
The selfie frame concept was on our staff member Fiona’s Wishlist before she went on maternity leave, and I'm delighted that our student experience team was able to bring this idea to life!
Yesterday we held a Biggest Morning Tea event for our students. A huge shout out to the Wellbeing team, Suria , Huyen, Jen and Lana, for organising this great event, and coordinating the different classes to ensure everyone was able to participate.
The students were so engaged and enthusiastic, and it provided them with a well-deserved pause to enjoy each other's company as well as raise money for a worthy cause.
Kathy is the English Language Centre’s lead EMI teacher (English as a Medium of Instruction). She’s currently delivering workshops in Taiwan with our partners.
Here she is with a happy bunch of students at Feng Chia University in Taichung.
Our Japanese Study Tour groups have been celebrating the end of their programs at our Graduation Dinner and Certificate Presentation Ceremonies over the last few weeks.
Congratulations to all students, including groups from University of Tokyo, Okayama University and Meiji University, whose photos appear below.
Our ELC Connections Program has been throwing events at Strike Bowling at Rundle Place this term, and they have been a smash hit! ELC students rolling strikes (and some gutter balls), all while sharing laughs and friendly banter with their class pals and our trusty ELC Connection Mates. Clearly, we're striking gold with these events!" 🎳😄
The ELC Connections Program took over the Golden Wattle Pub for our latest Cross-Cultural Conversations session! Our Connection Mates stirred up some serious chatter with ELC students, tackling life's biggest questions over chips and wedges. From pondering what to do with a million dollars to discussing what we would do with only one month to live, we covered it all! Who knew deep discussions could taste so delicious? Cheers to that! 🍻🌟
We recently bade farewell to our students from MeijiGakuin University in Japan, who were with us for a total of nineteen weeks studying English for Legal Studies and completeing some modules with our Law School. The students celebrated at a Graduation Dinner and Certificate Presentation at the Rydges Hotel.
Congratulations and we look forward to seeing students from MeijiGakuin University again in October!
Last Thursday night we held the Graduation Ceremony and dinner for students from Sangmyung University in South Korea. The students were with us for five weeks and enjoyed our classes and a range of social and cultural activities, as well as staying with our homestay families. Congratulations to all students!
The ELC Connections Program held their first Connections and Chat session for the term at local café L’Incontro on Wednesday. The sessions are a casual way for students to socialise with other ELC students and our ELC Connection Mate volunteers outside of class and practise their English conversation skills in a fun way. There were 7 students who attended today from our GEAP and PEP program, and they had a great time talking to our Connection Mates.
The ELC Wellbeing Team was recently awarded a grant by the Student Wellbeing Team to organise an event for National Mental Health Awareness Month. On Friday October 27th, the ELC Wellbeing Team hosted two yoga sessions followed by a light healthy lunch and a healthy afternoon tea. These beginner yoga classes were designed to promote stress management, self-care, healthy eating and emotional well-being.
Those ELC students, staff and volunteers that attended the yoga classes with yoga instructor Noah, had a good time and learned some new yoga techniques to alleviate stress and nurture a sense of calm they can do anywhere!. It was a great event.
ELC Connections Program - Holey Moley Mini Golf - Wednesday 20th of September
Last Wednesday as part of the ELC Connections Program we took ELC students and Connection Mates to play 9 holes of golf at Holey Moley Mini Golf in Pulteney Street. Many laughs and a few hole-in-ones were had. It was an unforgettable experience!

It was a really fun afternoon and a great way to send off some of our Taiwan students, as it was their last day of the program.
We received some photos from the organisers of the Adelaide ‘Kodomo No Hi’ festival that featured a number of Kansai Gaidai University students. KGU students were a great help and the organising committee very much appreciated their efforts. I understand there were over 6500 visitors on the day, so it is great to know that Japanese culture remains very popular in Adelaide.
Last Friday the 19th of May, the ELC Connections Program organised for ELC students to see an AFL match at Adelaide Oval – Port Adelaide Power Vs Melbourne Demons. While the weather may have been cold and wet – the game was fantastic, and the students had a great time experiencing the excitement of a close match. Port Power has certainly gained a few more international fans!
What a wonderful SA English Australia PD Fest that was held on Saturday. All presentations were so interesting and varied, with insights and valuable information that could be applied to the classroom and the centre.
Thanks to everyone who was involved in organising and/or particpating in the event!
On Thursday we held a Connection Pub Lunch at The Golden Wattle hotel.
Everyone had a great time trying some Aussie classics, like schnitzels and burgers and of course lots of chips and sauce.
Thanks to Sandra and Paula from the ELC team, the Connections Mates, and all of the students for making it a fun afternoon.
The ELC Connections program hosted a Hot Cross Bun morning tea with our GEAP Students and a surprise Easter egg hunt. Everyone enjoyed trying freshly toasted hot cross buns and chatting with other students. However, the highlight of event was hunting for Chocolate Easter Eggs! 🥚🥚 One lucky GEAP student found the prize Easter Egg and won a University of Adelaide cap! Congrats!
We hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend!
