Adelaide Booksellers, one of Adelaide's oldest bookshops now online at www.adelaidebooksellers.com Search service for things that are hard to find.
As well as one of Adelaide's oldest secondhand book shops we are also one of the largest with over 30,000 high quality books. Selection of antique and vintage prints.
Spent New Year's day (part of) having a glorious walk in the Gardens. So lovely and peaceful even with the holiday crowd.
Whilst largely secondhand books we have a selection of new books, not widely available elsewhere. Here is a tiny sample
A small selection of books we have catalogued recently.
A small selection of our new books on South Australian history
A small selection of 1650 military titles.
Lest We Forget
In the middle of a technology upgrade with the attendant stress! Amusing myself with taking more photos of our 'warehouse ' while Col works it all out.
A focus on philosophy!
Some lovely Folio Society sets - small selection of those catalogued this week
As well as lots of fabulous used books, we also stock a selection of new books - mainly from small publishers. This is a very small sample of some Australian history titles - all available on our website www.adelaidebooksellers.com.au and perfect for the book-loving dad.
A lovely set of Jane Austen's works
Anzac Day is a chance to acknowledge our soldiers, sailors and aircrew - across all the conflicts where Australia has been involved. Lest We Forget
Just added a collection of wonderful art books to our website which includes some quite unusual titles.
Three of our favourite brand new books. ‘Imitation of Life’: a fascinating book about the Botanic Gardens’ collection of papier mâché models made by Heinrich Arnoldi & Co. Gotha, Germany (1856-1899). ‘The Secret Robert Martiensen’ : the eccentric South Australian artist whose massive catalogue of work was discovered after his death. ‘Iridescence The Play of Colours’ : based on the 2014/15 SA Musuem Exhibition a look at both the science and the beauty of iridescent objects. The last one is signed by one of the authors.
Selection of Ron Blum's Postcard series. Images of postcards produced by the Rose Stereograph Company of Victoria between 1913 and 1967. Have the full set and all new books.
Lest we forget.
A small selection from a recent buy that included a lot of Nautical history.
As well as secondhand books we also stock small range of new books including some by Wakefield Press on South Australia’s history. They cover a broad spectrum of both well known & lesser known topics and people – some really quite obscure. Great reading for history buffs.
Have telephone and internet. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers the book unpacking going well, if tiring. The mountain of boxes now looking more like a hill. Thanks to Commonwealth Bank have had a very speedy resolution of the efptos issues. Australia Post also excellent. Surprisingly sorting rubbish bins has been the most bureaucratic and unresolved issue. Hopefully will be completely operational by next Monday. Mary
Finished with 12 Twin Street but had to have one last look at our lovely painted doors which will soon be obliterated. Sad to leave our shop but looking forward to a more manageable future at Clarence Gardens. Mary and Colin
We are now without internet and tomorrow afternoon will have no phone! Our reconnection with the world won't happen to early next week and that is always assuming that we can make the technology work. Will be relying on mobile technology until Telstra can fix a NBN connection. This may be several months away. Must admit tan my experience during this move has demonstrated that reliance on technology by companies has resulted in a degradation of customer service. An exhausted Mary
Move well underway and still on track to be online fully by 8 May. All is chaos in Twin Street but starting to take shape at Clarence Gardens. I still feel a bit like Dido standing amidst the ruins of Carthage! Mary
Getting to the pointy end of the relocation. Start packing up the books in the shop tomorrow so have suspended online sales until completed and in their new home. Likely to be off line for a couple of weeks. Watch this space! Cheers Mary and Colin
Adelaide Booksellers has now closed its shop in the CBD after 42 years of operation. We are now busy with the complicated business of relocating to new premises and a new business model. Lots of books, bookcases, IT stuff and associated paraphernalia to be shifted. Life feels a bit shambolic at present!
We will miss our lovely ‘walk-in' customers and we thank you all for your company and patronage over many years. However the books are all on our website, www.adelaidebooksellers.com.au, which is organised the same way as the shop.
We would also like to thank some of the many people who helped us survive and thrive in the business of bookselling. Len and Lesley Woodley who founded the business and generously provided ongoing advice and support once it became ours. David Brookman who got us through our beginning years – a true hero! Veronica Ghee, Robyn van Konkelenberg and Olivia Harvey who were part of our bookselling journey and the late Diane Kean and the late Franz Kosiak, beloved by us all, and so greatly missed.
We look forward to dealing with many old and new customers in the new arrangements.

Website is of course www.adelaidebooksellers.com.au. Thanks Andrew for pointing out my oversight. Mary

Move to new arrangements finalised. Our new ‘online’ premises will be on South Road at Clarence Gardens. Most of the books in the shop can go with us as they are already on line at www.adelaidebooksellers.com . However we have been working furiously to sorting the 1000s of spare books in our storeroom. Lots of books on sale for $1 each.
Will be closing Twin Street premises at Easter (last day of trading in this shop will be Thursday 1st April) so please come and have a look at our lovely, spacious and slightly quirky shop before it disappears. Cheers Mary and Colin, Adelaide Booksellers
Well our move is on. Building being redeveloped and so all moving by end of April. Still working through where we will end up. However as we start the process of moving many 1000's of books and their shelves we have to start the preparations. From Saturday 6th March we will no longer be open on Saturdays, except by arrangement. . Monday to Friday still as usual. Will be a wrench to leave our quirky and spacious premises.
