EVAC

EVAC is Adelaide Uni's video games association! We meet every Wednesday and Friday from 4pm in the old UniBar (Level 5 Union House) so come on by! No!

How long has EVAC been around for? EVAC was founded in 2001 as the Adelaide University Video Gamers Association (AUVGA). We changed our name around 2007. What does EVAC stand for? Nothing, actually! We just liked the sound of it. We've never worked out an official backronym for the name but we use "Extremely Versatile Acronym Club" a lot. And to match that name, we like to think up new acronyms fo

EVAC Movie Night Suggestion Spreadsheet 03/11/2020

EVAC is on again this week in the Old Uni bar at 4pm until late on both Wednesday and Friday. The regular COVID-Safe practices are in place as always with the sign-in sheet near the front of the bar and 1.5 metre distancing between people.

While this week is pretty quiet with not much to report next week will pick up quite a bit with EVAC's Movie Night taking place next Saturday. Below will be a clearer announcement and run down of the event for those interested.

The EVAC Movie Night will be on November 14th 12pm-12am, and is free for EVAC members. We will have two projectors running at opposite corners of the room, with various Video Game/general popular culture movies playing and some odd 'So-bad-it's-good' movies (i.e. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat etc.) planned as well. Dinner, drinks and snacks will also be on sale from the bar if people are interested. We have set up a Google Sheets for people to make recommendations for Movies that people could bring in *legal* formats just to keep everything 'above board' which is found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Py1p884I8dCwGdB8-pquYKNwiEUThaPGuiZ_uiNGXm0/edit?usp=sharing

After we've given people enough time to suggest movies on the Google Sheet we will set up a poll of some description where people can vote for the movies they'd be most interested in us playing for the event.

There is also the opportunity for us to offer alcoholic beverages at the event as well so if people would be interested in that react with a 😆 so that we can best gauge interest and assess if we should or not.

Hope you guys have a great week and we hope you guys are looking forward to the movie night next Saturday and we'll see you all either Wednesday or Friday this week 👋

EVAC is once again on this week in the Old Uni Bar at 4pm on Wednesday and Friday until late, the regular COVID-Safe practices will be in place as always with the sign-in sheet and 1.5 metre distancing between people.

As stated last week the Pokemon VGC tournament has been moved to this Friday due to people not being able to make it last week so we'll be going ahead with it this week. Now while it is true that the DLC will be dropping on Friday we will still be abiding with the Series 6 ruleset and if you need a refresher you can check the link in the above announcement for all the rules involving banned mons etc.

Hope you all have a great week and we'll see ya either Wednesday or Friday night for your regular dose of video games 👋

Hi all, EVAC will be held this week as usual on Wednesday and Fridays at 4pm in the Old Uni Bar. Previous COVID-Safe practices will still be in place with the sign in sheet and the 1.5 metre distance between people to ensure we are in keeping with the University's standards.

Just a friendly reminder to sign up for membership if you haven't already as while it is also required by the Uni, more importantly it will be a big help for us in future with room negotiation, grants and the money from memberships goes right into club gear, it also comes with a 10% discount at Adelaide Comics Centre. For Adelaide Uni students it's $5 and all others it's $10 which when broken down comes to about 10cents per 8 hours.

Hope you all have a great week and will see you there either night :D

19/08/2020

EVAC meetings will resume from 28th of August. People attending will need to adhere to the 1 person per 2 square meters restriction, and record their attendance and sanitise their hands at a central sign-in when they arrive, as per state government restrictions.

06/04/2020

EVACs weekly meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to social distancing measures. We will let you know when meetings resume. Stay safe.

19/11/2019

Hey all! Been a while since we've posted here! EVAC this coming Friday will feature our first Pokemon Sword and Shield tournament! The format is Double Battles VGC-style. (Bring 6 Pokemon, pick 4 each battle)

After viewing a fair bit of competitive, We have decided that Dynamax will be banned due to it being too unpredictable and hard to play around. However Gigantamax will still be legal, as you can predict which mon(s) can Gigantamax, a la Mega Evolution in Gen 6-7.

The following are also disallowed:
- Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternadus, and Mew
- Duplicate items (each pokemon must have a different item)
- Duplicate Pokemon

Hey all!
A few updates on PubQuest. Due to a delay in the arrival of the PubCrawl shirts, we're pushing back PubQuest by a week to the 11th.

We're also in the Hub today and tomorrow from 12-4 next to the kitchen area, selling shirt pre-orders. For $20 (as opposed to $25 next week) you get the PubQuest Shirt (design below), a pizza dinner prior to the pub crawl, and the ability to enter into the Scavenger hunt that runs from 4pm before PubQuest, with $250 going to the winner!

Here's an updated map of how to get to EVAC most weeks! Enter Union House via any entrance and come to the old UniBar on Level 5!

27/02/2019

Hey all, couple of announcements.

Firstly: Welcome to all our new members who signed up today! If you're finding it hard to find our meeting times and information, we book every Wednesday and Friday from 4pm-12am in the old UniBar (Level 5 Union House). These aren't strict meeting times, just kind of "come-and-go" gaming hangouts. We generally have the club Switch there, but feel free to bring anything you'd like to play and use our supply of Screens, Power Boards, etc.

Secondly: As many of you would be aware, a new Pokemon game has just been announced. As there are some people (particularly myself) who would wish to avoid any and all spoilers about the new game, please be mindful when/if talking about them at our weekly meetings.

08/01/2019

Hey all, acces to Fix Student Longe this Friday will be restricted as they are doing pavement work outside the main entrance, so to enter please go through the lower entrance next to the carpark.

05/11/2018

In addition to our current meeting times continuing in the Fix Student Lounge moving forward, the Games club we've been sharing our space with now books the Lounge Wednesdays from 4pm - midnight, just like EVAC! So if you want to catch up and play games on Wednesdays as well, or can't make it on Fridays, feel free to start coming by on Wednesdays!

22/10/2018

With the changes to Union House in progress, behold the messed up way to get to EVAC for the foreseeable future. Enter Union House from the Level 4 East entrance, take the elevator or stairs down to Level 2, then head around through the door to the tiny section of courtyard available, then into Fix Student Lounge.

17/10/2018

Heya, so due to the German Club needing the Fix for Oktoberfest stuff, we're in WP Rogers this Friday (yaaaaaaaaaaay). Apologies in advance for the inconvenience of having to move stuff to and from with the construction bs happening. Maps to Fix Student Lounge and ones with directions for the construction period to follow for next week.

08/10/2018

Hello all!

As of this Friday we are in Fix Student Lounge every week! Our storage in the room has been sorted out, and we will be making it our standard room moving forward. Map coming soon, and a second map for access during the upcoming construction clown fiesta!

Game of the Week this week is Super Mario Party! Ohhh yes, we intend to run a tournament of Mario Party, so its a good thing we've booked until midnight for people who are able to stay that length. People who can bring additional setups would be greatly appreciated!

27/09/2018

Sorry for late notice peeps, but we're in Mayo Cafe once more this week, and there is a Game of the Week tournament this week; Acceleration of Suguri X2.

An update regarding ongoing room booking shenanigans. The Union and Clubs Representative has informed us that due to upcoming massive construction work and changes to Union House as well as other factors, Fix Student Lounge is also unworkable as an ongoing club space. They have promised to give us options by next week, but things are not looking great. My apologies for the frequency of disturbances to our meetings caused by this.

11/09/2018

Hey all, we're in Mayo Cafe again this week! No planned Game of the Week this week, its just chill!

05/09/2018

Hope everyone's having a good week!

We're back in Mayo Cafe this week, and If it's convenient for people, I'd greatly appreciate some assistance before the start of EVAC, as we will be moving all equipment down to store in Mayo Cafe's storage lockers!

Additionally, starting this week, we will have members from the Board Games club attending on Fridays as part of our new collaboration with them! Do make them all feel welcome, and if you're feeling like playing some tabletop games, they'd be happy for you to join in !

This week's tournament is Super Smash Bros. Melee!

27/08/2018

Merry Monday to all! Hope everyone is doing well! We're in the WP Rogers room this Friday, and we have a Game of the Week in Borb (Birb orb) Arena!

Edit: Actually, could people let us know, either via Facebook message, or by PMing the Grand Overlord on Discord, whether they'd prefer Borb Arena or a rerun of Footsies for Game of the Week?

20/08/2018

Reminder that this Friday is our first week in Mayo Cafe! We won't be moving things permanently down to the cafe yet, as the uni's kicking us back up to wp rogers next week, but we will see this Friday how well the space works! Tournament wise this week is a smash week, I believe Smash 4?

13/08/2018

Merry Monday Morning people! Two quick notes this week:

First, we're in Shultz 307 this week (third floor of the tall building we usually pass by to go to after-club food). This week is the AGM, so all paid members (or people who are willing to pay for membership) are encouraged to attend to vote on committee members and general club agendas for the coming year!

Second, we do still have Game of the Week this Friday, and that game is Footsies, the three button fighting game (Also known as "Divekick but not terrible!")

31/07/2018

Slightly shorter notice than is usually intended: the game of the week this week is Slap City: the Super Smash Bros. inspired platform fighter!!! Signups from start of session at 4pm until 5:30pm, and tournament starts at 5:40! If anyone is capable of bringing additional copies/setups, please notify Michael Marrone via facebook messenger, or message EVAC directly!

Also, we now have a permalink for our discord, with all the standard Discord channel stuff! https://discord.gg/7xJSgtH

19/07/2018

Reminder that EVAC is not on tomorrow due to AVCon setup

06/07/2018

The group who were in Harry Medlin have finished early, so we can actually use the room we booked this week! Wooooot!

06/07/2018

Game of the Fortnight tonight is Acceletation of Suguri, the VS bullet hell game. Up for grabs is a steam copy of the game, so definitely give it a try!

21/06/2018

Hey people, double news:

1: We've been moved to the WP Rogers room just down the hall.

2: We have a Game of the Really Long Time its been since we last had one, the newly released Mario Tennis Aces!

13/04/2017

Quick reminder that due to the public holiday EVAC will not be meeting on Good Friday. Have a nice long weekend.

19/02/2017

It's O'Week this week, so if you are on campus this Monday come by the Maths Lawns and say hi to us at EVAC's stall, and while you are at it you can purchase your membership for the year.
Membership has returned to its usual price of $5 for Adelaide Uni Students, and $10 for general public.
Where is the money going?
Well, we are buying a Nintendo Switch!
This means all our members will get the opportunity to try out the new console after we pick it up on the day of release.

During the meeting on Friday this week we will be holding a Pokemon Sun and Moon tournament (VGC rules) and running an ultimate gamer competition (with the set of games being a closely guarded secret). So put the finishing touches on those pokemon teams and practice those game genres you are less familiar with.

See you all this week!

16/12/2016

Announcment: EVAC will be on break until 3rd of February.
Have a happy and safe new year.
See you all next year!
