I wonder if you know,
the work your body has done today.

How much disease it has fought off.
How many times it could have failed but battled on,
how many ways it could have broken but did not.

I wonder if you know,
the work your body has done today.

And each day it has done this amazing job,
without your help,
without your approval,
your acceptance,
your kindness.

Each day it has soldiered on,
regardless of the constant stream of negativity,
pulsing its way from your brain to your cells.
Not good enough.
Not attractive enough.
Not the right shape.

Perhaps it’s time to see your body for what is truly is,
An amazing and mind-blowingly competent machine.

Hello everyone, we are very lucky to be getting a visit from Trish , a Nia Black belt teacher, in a couple of weeks, so on Sunday the 19th of Feb we will be holding a workshop called INTRO TO NIA. It will be at the Bridgewater hall,
1 Carey Gully Rd Bridgewater from 9.30am untill 1 pm. The cost is $45 early bird price untill Feb 14th after that it will be $55.

UPWARD BLOCKS - one of 4 kinds of Blocks in Nia that are inspired by the Martial Arts.

Press your feet into the earth and imagine riding a horse. Begin with your arms in Ready Position - soft fists, drawing elbows back and down.

Slide the blocking hand and arm across your body, as if cutting yourself in half at waist-level. Swiftly spiral the hand, forearm bones and elbow joint upward, stopping the arm directly in front of your forehead. Your forearm bones remain horizontal
while forming an imaginary picture frame with the fist facing outwards. Return to Ready Position by spiralling the blocking hand and forearm bones downward, sliding across the waist and pulling both elbows back.

LEARN TO:
💪 Sense all 4 actions - across, up, down, back
💪 Power the start and stop
💪 Move with the intent to power the move from your base
💪 Imagine protecting your face from a ball coming at you

BENEFITS:
🤩 Increases flexibility, agility, mobility, and stability in the foot, leg, thigh, buttocks and core
🤩 Builds strength in the hip and core muscles
🤩 Develops coordination
🤩 Heightens reflexive response-ability

MONDAY OUTWARD BLOCKS - one of 4 kinds of Blocks in Nia that are inspired by the Martial Arts.

Think about your target, placing your attention on moving outward. Slide the blocking hand and arm across your body, as if cutting yourself in half at waist-level. Swiftly spiral the hand, forearm bones and elbow joint outward. Stop the arm directly in line with the front of the shoulder. Your forearm bones remain vertical while the inside of your hand faces inward.

Return to Ready Position, spiral the blocking hand and forearm bones downward, sliding back across the waist and pulling both elbows back.

💪 Sense all 4 actions - across, out, back, down
💪 Pull the non-blocking elbow down and back as you initiate Outward Block with the opposite arm
💪 Move with the intent to protect the side of your face
💪 Imagine holding a shield
