~Our young learners engaged in variety of activities to explore Aboriginal and Torrens Strait Island history and culture.
~children explored stories leading to heartfelt conversations about respect, unity and importance of coming together.
~ learnt the significance of each colour in Aboriginal flag before doing hand painting
~children excitedly engaged and questioned the provocations intentionally set up during the circle time
~children used their hand- eye coordination, creativity and pincer grip to make boomerang from scratch using salt dough and carved the art work with beaming enthusiasm.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Term 1's last few weeks were filled with the "Our body" theme, where children enthusiastically shared about their food, interests, and bodies, while focusing on healthy eating.
Discussions revolved around distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy foods, selecting lunch box options, and understanding the importance of fruits and vegetables in our diets. We engaged in indoor and outdoor exercises to promote fitness, explored the five senses and various body parts, and enjoyed craft and colouring activities as well. Furthermore, children actively participated in cooking sessions, learning about hygiene as they measured ingredients and prepared food.

Exciting news, everyone! We've reached the finish line of Term 3, and now it's time to kick off our amazing 2-week holiday program starting next week.

To start things off, we're inviting all the children to bring in their absolute favourite books to share with their friends. Imagine the joy of discovering new worlds and characters together, as we dive into the magical realm of storytelling. 📚

But that's not all! We'll also be embarking on a culinary adventure, where our little chefs will get to explore the wonders of cooking. From baking delicious cookies to creating mouthwatering dishes.🧑‍🍳

The children have been putting in a lot of effort to improve their self-help skills and it's really paying off! At morning tea, they've been using tongs to serve themselves fruit and it's been amazing to see how much they've grown. Not only are they getting better at these skills, but they're also feeling more confident and improving their communication skills. It's so rewarding to see them succeed.😊

For our Holiday week so far children have been busy cooking! We have cooked pancakes, baked pizza, made pasta and vegemite toast! All the children been very keen to participate in these cooking experiences. 😊

For our Term 3 program, we followed children’s interest and chose “The farm”. During this time we have learnt lots of farm animal names, different farms and farmers, counting with farm animal counters, how to wash farm animals using sensory boxes, singing, reading stories and having open-ended conversations, and many more.
We have also been focusing on the letter of the week, children have entered their sensitive period for learning sounds. So each week one part of our learning involves a letter of the week. Children have shown great interest and they look forward to bringing in objects from home that starts with the initial letter sound of that week.

Our holiday program provided a range of open-ended experiences and activities. Children participated in cooking experiences, science experiments, outdoor gross motor activities and free play.

Teaching children about life cycles is a perfect way to help them understand the world around them and to connect them with nature. Here were some of our highlights while learning about life cycles.

Montessori math materials help children approach math with hands-on, visual, and physical learning. These materials allow children to attach concrete knowledge to the often abstract concepts in math. As children progress through the Montessori math framework, the materials become more abstract.

Some highlights from the past few weeks of our Recycling theme program.

At Gatehouse Montessori, we make it an importance to celebrate diversity and by embracing cultural customs and building a strong relationship with our local community. The children and Educators have explored Chinese New Year and its many facts, through a series of materials and educational books. 🐯🧧

We have based our Term 1 theme on Recycling. Children were introduced to the topic and also completed some activities related to categorising the right rubbish into the correct rubbish bins. The skills children learn by recycling will create a sustainable world for them to live in. They'll have a greater appreciation for the way things work, and a better understanding of our precious ecosystem. 🌏♻️
