St Peter's College, Adelaide, South Australia
A leading Anglican school for boys committed to being an exceptional community of learning. We are a school with a rich tapestry of history and tradition.
St Peter’s College was founded in 1847, just 11 years after South Australia was established. The first classes were held at the Holy Trinity Church on North Terrace before we moved to our current Hackney location in 1850. The first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide, Augustus Short, was instrumental in establishing St Peter’s College in the tradition of the great public schools of England. In 1890 the Sc
SAAS Pink Round was held in the final week of Term 2 sport. As part of the round, pink socks were worn by all of our sports teams across their fixtures to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Through the sale of the socks vital funds were raised for the who place Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia.
Our Student Voice representatives cooked up a barbecue on Friday, for boys to enjoy as they watched our inaugural Staff v Students touch footy game. The
event was a great success, with valuable funds raised and our staff emerging victorious in an 8-3 scoreline.
Today, we welcomed home our Year 10 students after an adventurous 21 days hiking, bike riding, abseiling, exploring, stargazing and sleeping under hutchies in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges. With unprecedented levels of engagement, our students have returned with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and stories of resilience and discovery.
Despite some initial hesitations about the Journey, Max is proud to have completed the experience. “It was really really good because it pushed me and I found new skills. I found out I could cook food by myself and that I could actually do hiking and navigate by myself. I am really proud that I was able to do this,” said Max upon his return.
Thank you to our incredible Outdoor Education Team, group leaders, teachers and families; your unwavering support cannot be understated, as we congratulate our Year 10 students on completing their final Pushing the Boundaries milestone 🌄🥾🌲🔥
What an incredible showcase of our Junior School performing arts program! Yesterday, our Years 5 and 6 students, along with various ensembles, presented "Olympic Spirit" - a celebration of music inspired by the Olympic Games.
To demonstrate their class learning, Year 5 students sang as a massed choir and performed songs on xylophones, while Year 6 students wowed us with dance routines from their choreography unit.
Special thanks to our guests: Olympian Jess Stenson, vocalists Mr Chris Gann and Mrs Alison McCall, and comedian Mr Bean (aka Mr Sanders)! We hope the performance of "Go the Distance," dedicated to Jess, will inspire her as she prepares to compete in Paris.
Congratulations to all involved in this spectacular concert that was months in the planning. It was wonderful to see the real authentic beauty of our students portrayed through their joyful performances.
Congratulations to our Years 5 and 6 rock bands for being crowned Rock Champions at last week’s Battle of the Bands 🏆🎸
With a clean sweep in both divisions, our young rockstars, expertly guided by Mr Wain and Mr Nick, showcased their incredible talent.
Well done boys on this impressive result and the manner with which you conducted yourselves on and off the stage 👏
On Friday, a group of Year 12 students and teachers attended the Australia of the Year Luncheon. They were fortunate to meet Professors Georgina Long AO and Richard Scolyer AO, joint Australian of the Year and co-medical directors of Melanoma Institute Australia.
Gman shared that "It was a surreal experience. We were privileged to hear from and interact with some of the most influential Australians in the country. Learning about their contributions to the community and how seemingly small efforts can lead to significant changes was greatly inspiring. All recipients highlighted the importance of hope and persistence in their speeches. At the conclusion of the presentation, we were lucky enough to speak with Professors Scolyer and Long, who advised us to stay curious and continue asking questions in life."
It was an inspiring afternoon and our students benefited greatly from thought-provoking discussions with some of the country's brightest minds.
A special thank you to our musicians who opened proceedings to an appreciative audience 👏

Thank you to all who attended and to our Junior School Friends of Saints volunteers for hosting such a fabulous community event!

Last week, our Junior School SRC hosted our inaugural ‘Wellbeing Week’ to highlight and celebrate our school community’s commitment to wellbeing.
Students enjoyed lunchtime fun with Super Soccer, King of the Court and Fun Footy. Thursday’s Colour Your Threads free-dress day brought vibrant colour to the School and raised funds to support disadvantaged communities in accessing wellbeing resources through the Positive Education Schools Association (PESA). On Friday, our Biscuits and Buddies activity saw students decorating and sharing biscuits, fostering connections and friendships across year levels.
A big thank you to our SRC students, school captains, and staff for making the week unforgettable! 🌟
As part of our CEO-in-Residence Program it was wonderful to welcome back old scholar and current parent Andrew Lee (HWK 1994).
Andrew engaged with students in Legal Studies and History before delivering an inspiring speech at Muster. In his address he reflected one of the biggest experiences of rejection in his life and explained how this disappointment helped his secure a pathway to growth. His three key pieces of advice were:
- Take inspiration from rejection.
- Seek out perspectives that are not your own.
- Shape the Future.
You could have heard a pin drop as the Memorial Hall audience sat captivated by Andrew's every word. You can watch Andrew's address using the link.

Yesterday, 15 of our Chinese language learners were invited by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet to perform for Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Adelaide Zoo.
The boys sang a song about the famous Chinese panda He Hua before performing an intricate tongue twister about pandas. They closed their performance by expressing their affection for Wang Wang and Fu Ni to Premier Li Qiang. Through a translator, the Premier explained that while it is time for these beloved pandas to return to China, we can look forward to the arrival of a pair of equally beautiful, lovely and adorable pandas 🐼🐼.
Thank you Mrs Baker for preparing the students for this special performance.
Last week saw the successful production of the contemporary sci-fi drama, Horizons, by Kwame Owusu.
Students from Years 9 to 12 worked together to bring this quirky story to life, impressing audiences with their convincing and endearing performances.
Congratulations to all students involved and our Co-curricular Drama Coordinator Ms Jacqueline Cook 👏👏
On Sunday, we farewelled our Year 10 students with a ‘Blessing of the Boots’ ceremony as they embarked on their 21-day Journey in the Flinders Ranges. There was a great sense of camaraderie and excitement, curiosity and anticipation as the boys prepared for the adventure ahead. 🥾🏕️
Uncle John conducted a smoking ceremony, and Father Theo offered a message of strength, love and guidance to inspire the boys to take the first step of their journey.
Congratulations to former 1st V Basketball Captain Harvey White (DAC 2023) who is heading to the US in August on a full scholarship to study and play with Colorado Mesa University. Harvey will play the 24/25 season under former 36ers coach, Mike Dunlap.
A current Development Player for Adelaide 36ers, Harvey travelled to the US in May to compete in the PRO16 League, a competition that brings in hundreds of college coaches to watch and recruit players to their college programs. Harvey impressed the scouts with his elite playmaking ability and high IQ.
We wish Harvey all the best on the next chapter of his basketball journey 🏀

Our Cross Country athletes had an outstanding day at the SSSSA State Championships on Thursday, bringing home gold in three of our five team categories - 13 Year Boys, 16 Year Boys and Open Boys 🥇🥇🥇
Congratulations to all boys who pushed through the challenging Oakbank course. A special mention of Andrei (Year 7) who placed second in the 13 Year Boys and Stephen (Year 11) who won the Open 6km event with an impressive average pace of 3:12 min/km! 💨
It has been a joy to welcome grandparents and special friends into our Junior School over the past four days.
Students enjoyed introducing their guests to their friends and teachers and proudly sharing examples of their learning. It was wonderful to see our classrooms filled with multiple generations, providing our guests a window into a student’s world.
Mr Browning and Mr Nolan led guests on a tour of the historic precinct, providing insight on the establishment of the walls and fields of St Peter’s College.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made Grandparents and Special Friends’ Week so memorable.

Last Friday, our Junior School students were inspired by some of the State’s leading authors and illustrators as part of the Behind the Book Festival. From learning drawing techniques to exploring the creative processes involved in writing a book, a wealth of knowledge was shared by our presenters.
Later that day we hosted the annual Luminary Lunch, attended by students from SPSC, Concordia College, St Peter’s Girls School, Wilderness School, Pulteney Grammar, Christ the King School and Seymour College. Students enjoyed lunch with an author, dressed in costumes themed to match their guest creator’s books. The authors were most impressed with the students’ amazing costumes and decorations.
Thank you to the talented authors and illustrators who generously shared their time with our aspiring creators, and to the Library staff for coordinating such a great event for all who attended!
Congratulations to former 1st XVIII Captain Billy Dowling (DAC 2022) who will make his AFL debut for the Crows against Richmond at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
Drafted to the Crows with Pick No. 43 in the 2022 AFL National Draft, Billy has impressed in the SANFL for the Crows this season.

In Week 4 our Junior and Senior School Choirs, Jazz Vocal Ensembles and Senior Orchestra combined for our annual Voices of St Peter’s College Concert. Guests were treated to a delightful evening of performances that was a real celebration of the journey from a young boy to young man and all that is a boys’ education.
Well done to all students and staff on a wonderful evening. 🎶🎤🎻
As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan, Junior School students engage with Dr Yunkaporta's 8 Ways Aboriginal Pedagogy to foster meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and shared learning experiences.
During National Reconciliation Week, our classes have showcased this learning technique by uploading their 8 Ways contributions to a live feed shared across the Junior School. A sample of these contributions can be viewed above.
As an educational institution, we are in a privileged position to guide our young people towards a reconciled Australia. Cultural awareness and learning activities are an ongoing priority, not just dedicated to a week on our calendar, as we take meaningful action to advance reconciliation.
Congratulations to Da Costa House for winning today’s Senior School Swimming Carnival🏆
Congratulations to Farr House who claimed the Junior House Cup, while Woodcock House won the Senior House Cup. Four records were broken across the carnival: Max (Year 10) set an impressive three new records and James (Year 12) broke one. Congratulations to our Co-Captain of Swimming, James, who won the Wells Cup for the Open Champion.
Well done to all our swimmers for your outstanding efforts in the pool throughout the trials and carnival, and for demonstrating strong House camaraderie and cheer! 🏊🏻
During May, Adelaide journeys through time with South Australia’s History Festival. Yesterday, SPSC opened its doors to the public, hosting the St Peter’s College History Tour.
The tour took guests back in time, showcasing the history of the School’s oldest buildings in its heritage precinct including Big School Room, Old School House, the Chapel, Memorial Hall and Big Quad.
Student members of our Historical Society volunteered as Stop Guides, sharing their extensive knowledge with attendees.
The event was particularly meaningful for several guests who, despite having no living connection to SPSC, had fathers, grandfathers or great-grandfathers who studied or taught at the School. It was a special experience for them to walk in their ancestors’ footsteps and learn about life during their time at the School.
Our Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting visit from this morning 🐊🐍🦎
The incursion supports students’ Science learning on animal features, basic needs and environments.
Students were able to handle a variety of native animals. Highlights included the ‘adorable’ baby Salt Water Crocodile that could grow to 6m in length, the active and curious Coastal Carpet Python, the powerful Spencers Goanna, known for its strong tail and funny walk, and the Squirrel Glider, which gracefully glided from the students’ shoulders to the keeper
Last weekend, students from Howard House participated in a service trip to the Fork Tree Project in Carrickalinga; a project that aims to reduce carbon emissions by rewilding the area.
Across the day, students weeded, cleaned and prepared pots for recycling in the nursery and removed algae from seedlings.
It was heartening to see students from different year levels within Howard House work together, build meaningful connections, and contribute to a common cause. Our Howard House motto, “Deeds not words”, was truly embodied during this service initiative.

On the eve of Reconciliation Week our 1st and Open teams participated in a special Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle John.
Uncle John wished the teams well calling on the boys to connect with country, “If the spirit is in the land and we all live on the land, then we all have a bit of Aboriginal spirit in us. This weekend, if we can connect with country and draw on that spirit, it’s going to make us perform at our best level.”
Across the next two weekends, all teams will proudly wear sporting tops featuring Indigenous artwork designed by old scholars Leon Connop (S&A 2023) and Nathan Spry (S&A 2023) in 2020.
Our passionate parent community groups play an important role in fostering fellowship and connections among parents, guardians and staff while enriching the experiences of our students.
During National Volunteer Week, we recognise and celebrate the many members of our community who generously volunteer their time and expertise to help create a vibrant and nurturing school environment.
This year’s theme, ‘Something for Everyone,’ perfectly reflects the myriad of ways parents can be involved in volunteering. From assisting with our Learning Assistance Program, to accompanying students to the Mary Magdalene Centre to prepare meals for the homeless, to serving in the Recycled Uniform Shop and organising large-scale community events or hosting bottle and plate evenings, there are countless opportunities to contribute. We acknowledge the diverse passions and talents that our community brings to the spirit of volunteering. Thank you!
Have you noticed the amazing scents wafting out of the Junior School Function Space on Thursdays and Friday mornings?
Well that’s because the Barista Boys are back! And now they’re selling freshly baked brownies to accompany your coffee or hot chocolate.
Our Year 6 students are no only honing their barista skills, they’re also raising money to support the important work of Anglican charities.
Join us Thursdays and Fridays from 7.45am - 8.15am.
Now that’s a latte fun! ☕
Last Thursday, we were fortunate to hear from old scholar Phil Davis (YNG 2008) about his AFL journey and transition into the next phase of his life.
Phil had an impressive 192-game AFL career and in his address emphasised the importance of attitude over talent in achieving success; that is an attitude built on a strong work ethic, discipline, and a growth mindset. It was important for our students to hear, what should be a familiar message, reinforced by Phil.
In the afternoon, Phil spoke with our Senior football teams about team work and resilience, followed by a quick a Q&A session.
Thank you Phil for generously giving of your time to engage with our students.
Our Year 11 Agriculture students spent Term 1 learning about viticulture and wine making, using grapes from our vineyard on the Senior School campus. 🍇
The boys learnt about vine maintenance, disease treatment, and berry ripening, recording sugar levels to determine the optimal time to harvest. Applying their Chemistry and Biology knowledge, they balanced the pH of the must then established a fermentation and monitored the yeast-driven reaction using a hydrometer. After harvesting using a basket press, the wine was settled and racked into a container for cellaring.
Labels for bottles have been designed and next year’s class will handle the final bottling of the wine.
