Music News
This week, the Receptions, Year 1s, Year 3s and Year 5s were treated to an indigenous dance and singing incursion. Majeda Beatty dazzled the audience with her high energy songs and dance from her Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture of Queensland. It was an interactive performance and she had the children highly engaged with singing and dancing and showing them traditional costumes and body painting.
The children thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt some new Aboriginal words.

Wellbeing News - Did you know?
Too much screen time on digital devices can negatively impact young people’s development.
Studies show that children can become less physically activity and this inactivity can lead to obesity.
Children can develop poor sleeping patterns and routines, poor posture and deteriorating eyesight.
They can also develop poor diets and unhealthy snacking habits, poor social skills, difficulty making friends, reduced motivation and self-esteem, poor attention and challenges with problem solving.
While computers and TV can be valuable for education and learning, the health benefits, skills and enjoyment that kids and teens get from being physically active are just as important.
So how much screen time should my child have?
Experts recommend the following:
Pre-schoolers (2 to 5 years old): No more than one hour of screen time in total throughout the day, including watching TV or looking at a computer or phone.
Evidence suggests that long periods of screen time are connected with slower development of language skills and carries an increased risk of being above a healthy weight. Young children will benefit more from talking, singing, reading or playing with other kids.
Children and young people (5-17 years): No more than two hours of recreational screen time including watching TV or looking at a computer or phone.
The less time spent inactive in front of a screen, the better their health will be. Break up long periods of sitting as often as possible with playing games outside, doing chores or playing with other kids.

REMINDER: N**E FOOD WEEK
Dear Families
The following extract was written by Ivy Balfour, Ambassador (with support from her father Matthew.)
Week 8 of Term 2 is N**e Food Week. N**e Food Week is something to look forward to. Its purpose is to reduce the use of plastics. Please support your children to stop bringing single-use plastics. If you do not remind your children, they could miss out on winning a movie with their classmates.
How to win this fun prize and help the environment all at the same time!
One class in the Early Years and one in the Primary Years will get the chance to watch a movie. At the beginning of every playtime, teachers will inspect the food and give a point to each student that shows food without any plastic wrappings. The more food without plastic wrappings, the more points the class will earn. Up to 50% of items in school bins come from food and drink packaging.
PACK
• Snacks in reusable containers
• Drinks in a reusable bottle
• Reusable utensils when needed
• A reusable lunchbox or backpack
AVOID
• Plastic bags, cling film or foil
• Disposable drink boxes, cans, cartons and bottles
• Disposable forks and spoons
• Pre-packaged lunches or single serve items
The above prize will make sure that everyone is eager to participate. It will be the highlight of their term.
‘So let’s try and not use single-use plastics for just one week. Hopefully this will start a trend; you can do it for the planet!’
Times Tables Rockstars & South Australia Rocks Competition
This term, Year 3 and 4 students are excited to be trailing an engaging online Math program called Times Tables Rock Stars. This program has been designed to boost children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division. With question-based games that adapt to each child’s learning needs, Times Tables Rock Stars helps students improve their times table skills in a fun and interactive way.
In Week 2, there was a ‘South Australia Rocks’ tournament. Students played for up to one hour per day and gained points for every correct answer. All students were highly motivated to see our school high on the leader board! We are thrilled to announce that Room 26 came in 3rd place in the State-Wide competition, showcasing their speed and accuracy in times tables! As a reward, our school has won a $100 Amazon voucher. Additionally, many students were delighted to see their 'Rockstar' names on the leader board each night, demonstrating their dedication to learning and practice.
We want to express our thanks to all families for their continued support and partnership in their children's education. Your encouragement and involvement play an invaluable role in helping our students succeed.

...... From the Ambassadors
"Dear Families,
Our Year 6 Ambassadors have proposed having a Food Drive at Linden Park Primary School on Wednesday 22-Friday 24 May 2024. The Ambassadors will gladly accept any donations outside of the Wellbeing leader's Office, in front of Room 20.
A Food Drive is an excellent opportunity for our school community to come together and support those in need. By donating non-perishable food items, we can make a significant impact on the lives of individuals and families facing food insecurity. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, can make a difference in someone's life.
We encourage all students, parents, and staff to participate in this event. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of others and create a stronger, more caring community here at Linden Park Primary School.
If you choose to contribute to the LPPS Food Drive, we recommend that you bring long-lasting foods such as pasta, dried fruit, canned food and non-perishable items.
All donations will go towards helping families and people in need. Food Bank relies a lot on the generosity of others to continue their work in supporting families and individuals facing food insecurity.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
Poppy Sutcliffe, Year 6 Ambassador"

This will occur through the creation of smoke-free and vape-free areas in the following areas:
At early childhood services premises, and education and children’s services facilities (including schools), and within ten (10) metres of their boundaries.
At and within ten (10) metres of non-residential building entrances, such as entrances to shopping centres, government and commercial buildings.
At public hospitals and health facilities, private hospitals and residential aged care facilities, and within ten (10) metres of their boundaries.
(note: the regulation for residential aged care facilities will come into operation 12 months after the day on which the other regulations are made).
Within outdoor public swimming facilities.
At major events venues declared under the Major Events Act 2013.
At and within ten (10) metres of a sporting venue during an organised underage sporting event, training or practice session.
On beaches between and within fifty (50) metres of red and yellow patrol flags, and under (and within five (5) metres of) jetties.

Wellbeing News
Welcome back to Term 2. I would like to start by thanking the many families who made me feel so welcome last term and made me feel like part of the LPPS family. It has been much appreciated.
Student Action Committee
Our Student Action Committee (SAC) Reps have been hard at work already this Term and have identified a number of areas around the school that could be improved. It is so pleasing to see how enthusiastic they have been in wanting to have a say in issues which matter to them.
Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Over the next few weeks, students in Years 4 to 6 will undertake the Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This is an annual survey conducted by the Department for Education, which allows students to express their views in areas which are important to them including their social, emotional and academic learning.
The survey results allow staff to understand areas which concern students and implement programs and strategies which can better accommodate their needs. Our Student Wellbeing Leaders also analyse the survey results and together focus on areas which need improving and make suggestions on how this can be achieved.
Kind regards
David Molloy, Student Wellbeing Leader & Autism Inclusion Teacher

Auskick Visit
On Friday 9 February (Week 2), Linden Park Primary had a visit from the SANFL to receive an Auskick clinic for classes in Reception – Year 2. Classes were brought out to the oval for a 30 minute session with their teachers to practice their football skills such as kicking, marking and handballing. It was great to see so many kids enjoy kicking a footy with their friends.
Linden Park Primary Auskick Centre begins on Thursday 15 February. This clinic will be held at Mariner Oval and will run for eight weeks.
AFL Auskick is simply the best introduction for kids into the world of Australian Football. Auskickers run, jump, kick, laugh, express themselves and create their own special moments that just happens to be footy. No matter if you know the game or not, Auskick is inclusive for everyone at any ability to play.
