The Eden Hills Scout Group and Rotary Club of Blackwood gathered to celebrate the opening of the Karinya Reserve Community Hall yesterday.
The brand new facility replaces a 60-year-old Scout hall and 30-year-old Rotary shed and includes a community hall, toilets, a meeting room, kitchen and storage area.
It will also be available for hire by the public for private events.
The project was co-funded by $580,000 from the federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, $956,000 from City of Mitcham and $100,000 raised by the Eden Hills Scout Group.
The Hall's exterior features the artwork of artist Adam Poole-Mottishaw, whose design was inspired by the users of the facility and surrounding reserve, incorporating feedback from local youth, Scouts, Rotary and Trees for Life volunteers.

The Maddern Reserve Carpark upgrade is officially underway! ๐Ÿ‘ท

We are sealing surfaces to eliminate muddy conditions, making it safer and more convenient for vehicles and pedestrians, especially those from Coromandel Valley Primary School.

In response to community feedback, we are also reconstructing the adjacent footpath with permeable materials to reduce ponding, and adding permeable pavers and rain gardens to improve stormwater quality before it reaches Minno Creek.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work towards a safer, greener carpark for everyone! For more information, please visit our Your Say page โ†’ https://yoursay.mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au/maddern-reserve-carpark

Did you know? Centennial Park Cemetery was established in 1936 after a sub-committee of the Mitcham, Unley and Marion councils was formed to draw up a scheme for a jointly controlled public cemetery.
Although Marion eventually withdrew from the scheme, both Unley and Mitcham councils committed to finding a site and settled on an area on Goodwood Road at Springbank (now Panorama). The land was purchased for ยฃ4,000 at a cost of ยฃ100 per acre.
