Star of the Sea School
We are a co-educational, primary, parish school which serves the needs of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish at Henley Beach, South Australia.
This term we are delighted to welcome our new Reception students and their families to our Star of the Sea family along with other new students across the school in Year 2, Year 4, and Year 6.
We are all looking forward to getting to know you and watching you grow, learn and flourish at Star of the Sea.
We are delighted to share the wonderful news that two of our teachers have recently welcomed new additions to their families!
Sam Carpenter and family celebrated the arrival of a beautiful baby girl, Maggie Carpenter, born on July 2nd.
Kaya Nicholls and family welcomed a handsome baby boy, Harvey James Capitanio, born on July 20th.
Both women and their gorgeous babies are doing well.
Not everyone has the talent of Beyonce or The Wiggles, but we can all sing! 🎤 It’s time to get your vocal cords ready and try this singing activity: Sing... and stop! On the change table or at the dinner table, start singing their favourite song... stop... and wait for your child’s reaction before singing again.
Why sing with your baby? 😲🎤 Singing with your baby can help grow their language and speech skills. Listening to music and singing also helps babies and toddlers to learn to regulate their emotions and supports their auditory processing or hearing sense, helping them gather information about their world! This week our Little Stars Term 2 students graduated. Well done to our Little Stars group and we wish them well as they start in Term 3 Reception.
Today the Year 6 students and the Reception students joined together for our first ever Reading Picnic. The Reception students brought a rug and a toy and the Year 6 students brought a picture book or two to share. Together we sat and shared some stories. We can't wait for our next reading picnic! 🥰
Today the Reception classes celebrated the end of a wonderful semester together with the theme of 100 days at school.
The children dressed up and completed a variety of activities. Some of the activities included making fairy bread, writing our name 100 times, building a 100 paper cup structure, threading 100 Fruit Loops onto a string, painting 100 sprinkles on an ice-cream picture and writing our numbers to 100.
Our beautiful Reception students all received a certificate to congratulate them on a wonderful start to 2024. The Reception teachers are so proud of all their efforts this semester.
“On Friday night, Star of the Sea had their 2024 Showcase Concert. We had performances from the Junior choir, Senior choir, Senior band and Rock 1 & 2. Well done to all of the students involved.”
Did anyone find a pot of gold this morning?
Today we had the pleasure of handing over all our donated goods that we collected through our Winter Dignity Drive. Cheryl from the Henley Beach Parish came and filled her car with all the generous donations. These will be donated to Catherine House and Hutt Street Centre. Thank you again to our amazing community here at Star of the Sea.
Why read with your baby? 📚 Looking at pictures and listening to different stories encourages your little one to use their imagination and grow language skills. It also sets children on a path to develop a lifelong appreciation and love of reading! To learn more, please visit wordsgrowminds.org.au.
Well done to the SAPSASA Airport District Netball Boys who participated last week.
Year 1 Liturgy
We can be a good friend like Jesus.🥰
This term, as part of their learning in Science and STEM, year 5 students have been learning about game design and created their own video games using Bloxels. The learning was linked with Biological Science, Media Arts and English because each game designer needed to incorporate information about animal or human adaptions, follow a narrative structure, create all the characters and background art and include educational facts.
Today 5P students got to share their finished awesome games with their 2P buddies. They were a BIG HIT!
This week is your last chance to help support Catherine House and Hutt Street Centre. All goods can be dropped of at the Front Office.
Thank you for your support.
Last Friday our New Term 3 Receptions had their transition day. It was great to see so many smiles. We welcome all our new families to Star of the Sea School. 👏🙌
Congratulations to the SAPSASA Airport District Netball Girls. Division 3 girls came 1st and Division 1 girls came equal 1st. Good luck to the boys who are playing this week.
Today our staff celebrated June birthdays, a special happy birthday to Fr Manu who turned 50.
From all of us here at Star of the Sea School, congratulations to our Old Scholar Jaxon Bowshire (Class of 2018) . We wish Jaxon all the best for the coming Olympics in Paris. 👏👏👏👏
Parents are a child’s first teacher and there is so much that children can do at home to follow their interests, have fun and learn new skills! Get chatting with this fun activity: Toy picnic 🧸 A teddy bear’s picnic, brunch with the dolls, or dinner with Mr or Mrs Potato Head will provide an early understanding of the ways people communicate in a fun, safe space.
Today we celebrated ‘Fluffy Friday’ to remind us of how fortunate we are to have warm, cosy clothes to wear in this cold, wintery weather. Our school collected donations to help support our Parish’s Winter Dignity Drive. All our donations will go to Catherine House and Hutt Street. Thank you to our generous community for all your donations. We are truly blessed.
