✨Welcome to Northside Counselling and Play Therapy! ✨
Are you new to Play Therapy and not sure what's involved?
Play Therapy is a child-led style of therapy where children are able to freely express their thoughts and feelings as they engage with our resources, providing an insight into how they view themselves, relationships and the world around them. ❤
What the parent hears about their child’s play therapy session: I played today. What is actually happening: developing a life narrative; having experiences validated; experiencing a relationship with healthy boundaries; making the unconscious, conscious; resolving internal conflicts; having worth and value unconditionally acknowledged; having emotionally corrective experiences. Play is MEANINGFUL for children and is how they COMMUNICATE. The PLAY THERAPIST provides the relationship and security as the vehicle to move through all of these play experiences.
We created this graphic and quote based upon tens of thousands of play experiences with children. This is not a client quote.
There's another way to consider children who seek movement in the atmosphere of labels and disorders, and that's an adaptation to one's body and brain wiring. When an individual’s body needs to move, it’s a self- accommodation— often a way to seek to regulate beyond one’s conscious awareness. We should incorporate more opportunities for children and students to move as their bodies need in school settings and beyond. 🏃♂️🏃🏽♀️
Learning to accept a loss, admit being wrong, apologize-- don't just happen instantaneously. They develop over time as children begin to learn how to self-regulate disappointment (and prediction errors).
This weekend might bring up tough emotions for some people.
If you’re worried, reach out, let them know you care about them and are there to support them in any way you can.

Alongside its mental symptoms, anxiety can also often manifest in physical symptoms. Common physical symptoms of anxiety can include:
✅Hot and cold flushes
✅Racing heartbeat
✅Tightening of the chest
✅Quick breathing
✅Shaking/ restlessness
✅Tension
While this is neither an exhaustive list nor a diagnosis, it’s handy to keep in mind. If you’ve been ticking all these boxes for a while now, it could be a good idea to check in with your doctor. To learn more or for tips on how to manage anxiety, visit bit.ly/3U8y9wB.
A nice reminder… "Sometimes, when I'm having a dark day and can't see the light… I don't really need you to try and put it on for me…
What I really need is for you to sit with me in the darkness ‘till it passes..."
