2023 in Review: Part 2. Thank you all for another big year @ East Vision! We Turned 4 this year! 🥳 To celebrate we got ourselves a small facelift, both to the building and the car park area. We got some exciting new ranges of frames and new lens technologies. We loved welcoming all the new patients to our community this year. Looking forward to 2024! 😀

2023 in Review: Part 1. In-person professional development was back in full swing this year! Photi was glad to attend the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania's first conference since pre-COVID days. He also attended the joint 4th World Congress of Optometry conference and O-MEGA trade show. It was great to see all the latest and greatest in research and tech all in one place! This year Photi also became an Credentialed Optometrist through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), meaning he is now able to be part of the medical assessment of pilots ✈️.

This year in particular, we have been seeing a spike of local patients with irritated eyes and conjunctivitis following the spike in cold and flu symptoms across the state! It’s no fun being sick, the last thing you need is sore, dry or tired eyes for weeks after.

Here is what you need to know to take care of your eyes through winter:

1. Take extra care with touching your eyes while sick. Treat any burning or itching sensations, don't just rub your eyes.

2. Keep up your Dry Eye therapy: The cold air tends to be drier during winter, leading to increased evaporation of our natural tear film.

3. Be aware of eye allergies: Surprisingly, winter isn't allergy-free! Indoor irritants like dust mites, pet fur, or mold can trigger allergic reactions, causing itchy, red eyes. Time for some extra cozy cleaning!

4. UV Protection: Don't be fooled by frosty weather—harmful UV rays are still at play! Rock those stylish sunglasses for added winter eye defense.

5. Indoor Heating: Snuggling by the fireplace or cranking up the heating? While cozy, these warmth sources can parch the air indoors. Consider using a humidifier to maintain optimal moisture levels.
