Working together for better hearing health for all Australians
ACAud inc. HAASA has been advised by Queensland Health, that the Audiology Decision Regulatory Impact Statement (Decision RIS) was tabled at the August Health Ministers’ meeting and that the Ministers agreed with the recommendations in principle, pending further stakeholder consultation. We are yet to receive formal confirmation of the decision. We have no further information on how the next phase of consultation will be rolled out and no confirmation that Audiometrists are included in the proposed regulatory changes.
As you will appreciate, this information has only just been received so we await formal communication, likely to be next week. The implementation of regulation is likely to take several years and there is still another consultation phase to be undertaken before any final decision is made by the Health Ministers.
We will keep you updated with developments as they become available.

ACAud; Audiometrists and Audiologists working together to help people hear and live better.
You will have all received the news of the appointment of our new CEO, Miguel Diaz. He and board member Mark Paton attended the Hearing Health sector Alliance meeting in Canberra this week. One of the subjects covered in depth was the divisive issue of registration of Audiologists and the current consultative process initiated by the Qld government which could impact all of Australia. ACAud echoes the recommendation from HHSA that a task force be established to look at the area of concern in the Cochlea Implant programs where issues have occurred. ACAud's involvement with HHSA is critical in ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to the Hearing health landscape in Australia.
