Lest We Forget.

Today we commemorate those who have served for Australia and New Zealand, past and present.

For Open Minds, ANZAC Day is particularly special. In 1917 Open Minds, formerly the Queensland Wattle Day League, supported returned soldiers following WW1, and funded the build of an Orthopaedic ward at the Rosemount Hospital.

In fact, The League continued to raise money for former soldiers and the upkeep of the hospital for years after the war had ended.

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, which encourages us to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences 🧠

Open Minds Regional Manager, Grant Blest was diagnosed with ADHD late in life and has a keen interest in helping people gain an understanding of the complex disorder.

"I found myself wondering what my life would have been like if I had been diagnosed earlier. Problem with that is, living in the past can lead to depression, because I can’t go back and change it," said Grant.

"What I choose to focus on is all the experiences that have made me who I am today. With knowledge comes understanding. With understanding comes acceptance. Accept yourself for your uniqueness. I have."

We are proud to be hosting the 2024 Direct Support Workers (DSW) Conference and are looking forward to sharing the amazing program with you.

Be sure to register to see keynote speaker Kath Koschel in action 🎤🏏💕🤗

Kath isn’t your normal athlete. In fact, she’s so modest she wouldn’t even consider herself an athlete. But the former NSW cricketer has more fight in her than most.

Kath’s story is one of inspiration and utter strength. She has pulled herself through challenges that most of us could not comprehend, without letting them shake her belief that we all have the capacity for kindness.

Now known worldwide for her kindness adventures, Kath shares her journey of how she turned adversity into triumph, leaving her home with nothing but the clothes on her back, attempting to prove that you really can survive physically, mentally, and emotionally, on kindness.
