A great post from Albert Melbourne parkrun that also applies to South Bank parkrun! We are still looking for volunteers for Saturday: A photographer and a barcode scanner. Please get in touch if you can help!
So we're trying something different. We still need a *LOT* more volunteers for our parkrun this weekend - at least 12 more people. We have vacancies for marshals, one more barcode scanner and ideally a photographer.
Last night we did a Facebook post that apparently went to over 3000 people. However, only 27 people clicked "like". Over on Instagram, 1,180 people saw the post and we got 15 likes.
We get it, you don't want to "like" a post about needing volunteers and then not volunteer yourself. You think that if you don't "like" it then no one will know that you saw it. But if no one "likes" our posts then the algorithms think our content is not very engaging and subsequent posts don't reach many people. So, it's ok to "like" every one of our posts, in fact we want you to! Don't feel embarrassed about *not* volunteering, it's not an obligation - but it is fun!
When we finish parkrun with an incomplete roster for the following week we have very limited options. Facebook and to some degree Instagram, are our best ways to reach people. Despite having over 31,000 registered participants just for our parkrun, when we send emails appealing for volunteers, they only reach about 700 people. This is because very few people opt-in to receive emails from parkrun.
So, to re-cap, this is what you can do to help:
1) Sign up to volunteer when you are at parkrun. This is the best way to help!
2) Opt-in to receive emails from our parkrun. You can click on the link in any email from parkrun, go into your profile and update your preferences.
3) Like every single one of our social media posts. The more likes we get, the more reach we get.
But right now, we need another dozen people to be heroes in our community for this weekend. Is that you? Comment, message or email us ([email protected]). All our roles are fun and easy!
Our roster is looking a bit light on for the next few weeks, can you please help? https://www.parkrun.com.au/southbank/futureroster/
