Every Saturday morning our Newstead studio hosts project orientated hand building workshop from 10am-12pm. 🖐🏾 These are perfect for beginners or those just wishing to try something new as they are one off and all inclusive. The price of $240 includes all materials firing and for the studio to glaze your work for you, ready to collect a few weeks later. 🥰

This week we begin a new semester of 6 Week Courses in both our studio’s! 💫

Our hand building courses are fully booked, but some of our 6 Week Beginner Wheelwork Courses & continuation / intermediate wheel courses still have space.

The final week of the 6 Week Courses is upon us again so it means a big week of glazing!

All of our glazes offered in the final class are Mieke’s unique recipes and are handmade on the Sunshine Coast and transported in powder form to the studio’s each week. From there they are mixed by the studio tech’s for our students exclusive use in the glazing classes! 💦 🎨

The last session of the courses is the glaze class. Your teacher will show you several application techniques to achieve different and interesting glaze finishes. This semester, we have added several exciting new courses to our curriculum to provide students with a diverse range of learning opportunities. In the last 8 weeks Intermediate course of the year, we are concentrating on advancing your skill set in order to throw larger, better and more consistent.

We will teach you to really consider your forms and designs and help you to bring everything together in advanced vessels, like teapots, lidded pots, pouring vessels and tall vases.

And that’s not all! We will also teach you to throw off the hump, refine bottle necks and work with different clay bodies and coloured clays with Neriage and sgraffito techniques.

In short, if you have completed a Beginner course or have some basic experience and wish to advance, this is your last chance in 2024. This course starts Wednesday the 14th of August 6pm-9pm and runs for 8 consecutive weeks. Book in via link in Bio

It’s been a while since we said hello! We are Mieke and Charlie, the mother/daughter behind Mas & Miek. 👋🏼

We have been making work together under the collaborative name Mas & Miek since 2011 and have loved every minute of the last 7.5 years running Mas & Miek Ceramic House together. We often get asked if we kill each other daily and the simple answer is not really! 😅 We actually really enjoy working together and whenever we tiff, we are over it in 30 seconds flat asking the other where we should get a sandwich for lunch. 😂

We are still in the studio daily, whether it be teaching, making or working up in the office. (Not our favourite part) 🙄

We love sharing the craft of ceramics with anyone who wishes to learn alongside our truly wonderful team of teachers and studio assistants. If you see us in the studio please don’t hesitate to say hello!! 😊👋🏼

We host two ‘6 Week Hand Building Course’ class times in the semester - Wednesday 10am-1pm and Thursday evening 6pm-9pm.

Both are taught by talented artists & .wilson.art and both start next week!

Attention all former students
We are running a new 6 week course ‘Throwing Large’ Wednesday evenings starting the 3rd of July 6pm-9pm!

We don’t have this course regularly so don’t miss it! If you are able to confidently throw a cylinder, you can learn a lot from this course guided by Claudia

Thursday night is hand building night with Tim Wilson. Tim creates dynamic abstract sculptures in his own practice and will guide you through many amazing hand building techniques in this six week course.

You will create so many useful fun things like vases or gorgeous hand made plates for your home and walk away with lots of Christmas presents.

This Sunday morning at 10am to 12.30pm Mieke will host another Nerikome workshop in our Newstead studio.

In this workshop, we will explain how to introduce the pigments into the clay and explain the origin and technique of Nerikome. You will create a sushi plate with matching side dishes or a lovely bowl. We will clear glaze it for you to pick up after two weeks.

6 Week Tableware Course is back! 🍶

Taught by Sacha in the Newstead studio, the course will start on Monday July 1st. The course is nearly half filled already, so be sure to secure your spot soon.

If you are at the stage where you are progressing in your throwing, but still would like some guidance, or to pick an experienced potters brain - our Sunday Throwing Classes would be perfect for you.

These casual ‘drop in’ classes are taught by who not only has extensive experience on the pottery wheel, and can teach a variety of exciting wheel techniques, she just came back from furthering her ceramic education in Japan and is FULL of new information and ideas.

Claudia is back from Japan and is ready to kick off a brand NEW Intermediate course this Wednesday evening at 6pm in our Newstead studio.

This exhilarating 8 week course will immerse you in a world of advanced techniques, pushing your boundaries and culminating in the creation of one or more magnificent pouring vessels, including the pièce de résistance - the teapot.

Fred Hollows himself was a true visionary, revolutionizing the field by offering free cataract operations in impoverished communities. Through his innovative methods, he has been able to restore eyesight for as little as $25.

As visual artists, we are proud to have chosen this remarkable charity to support. Through our charity markets, we have already restored eyesight for over 700 individuals. We will soon have an exact number following this donation, and we will keep you updated as our goal is to help 1000 people regain their vision.
