It's Thursday, and its Science week!
So our Kindy children excitedly went to teach their Grandfriends all about being Scientists today by sharing in a range of experiments with them.
Together we explored how to create fizzing rainbows, skittles rainbows, rainclouds and how detergent repels pepper in water.
We explored the way we could make rockets and helicopters fly in different ways and with different amounts of force.
We had an amazing morning with our Grandfriends, being scientists together.
It's Science Week and our Kindergarten children have begun learning all about what a Scientist does. We have already learnt a scientist asks questions like Why, How and What? Science starts when a person is curious about the world around them and asks questions about how it works. They think of ways to learn about the world by doing investigations, keep track of their data as evidence, and share with other people what they have found.
Today they conducted experiments with everyday ingredients, made observations of natural flora with magnifying glasses like a botanist, explored searching for fossils like a palentologist, and collected data like a marine biologists.
This week our Kindergarten children welcomed Miss Tilly from Rochedale State School, to talk to them about getting ready for Prep.
She brought in a big poster which had different questions and information about what the children will experience in prep next year.
She showed the school bag, different uniforms and library bag from her school. The children were invited to watch a video of children in prep and what a day in the life of a prep student looks like.
Thank you Miss Tilly for visiting us and helping us to build connections within our local community and allowing us to have a smoother transition to Prep next year.
Its Dental Health Week, and our Kindergarten children were excited to welcome a special visitor to Kindy today from our local community.
Dentist Dan talked to the children about the importance of dental hygiene and how to take care of their teeth.
Our children were very engaged, and asked lots of questions. They really enjoyed playing the healthy foods game with the Dentist.
Each child showed Dentist Dan their best smile and received a special gift bag filled with information about having a healthy smile and a new toothbrush and toothpaste.
Day 5 of the Kindergarten Mini Olympics saw the children participating in Gymnastic balance beam experiences, sack races and water balloon shot put.
Thursday = our favourite day 😍 we get to visit our grand friends.
Today after we joined our grand friends for morning tea our grand friends joined us for some canvas paintings. Once we finished our canvas we gifted them to our special grand friends to keep. Before we said goodbye we made an extra special canvas with our grand friends with all of us making our marks to make one beautiful masterpiece.
Day 4 of the Kindergarten mini-olympics saw the children participating in pool noodle javelin, rhythmic Gymnastics and the 1500m walk ( to our Grandfriends house)
Day 2 & 3 of the Kindergarten Mini Olympics have seen the children participating in Gymnastics - showing off their trampoline & tumbling skills,
Diving- showing their best 'in air' moves, Hurdles - walking/ running/ jumping over obstacles made from large loose parts,
Ball Games - How many balls can you throw in the target? And
The Spinning top challange - Who can spin the top for the longest time.
Our Kindergarten children were very excited to engage in building their fine motor skills through the creation of their own passport ready to learn about the Olympics and the different countries of the world, that are competing at the Olympic games.
They practised their cutting skills, drawing a self portrait, writing their name and age, and then filling it with stamps.
Along with learning about the different sports of the Olympics, our Kindergarten children have also been learning about the celebrations, traditions, language and culture of different countries from around the world participating in the games.
The dramatic play space in the Kindergarten Studio is set up as a Restaurant, full of resources that engage the children in learning about other cultures.
The Kindergarten torch relay lead to another type of relay race.
The children explored moving their bodies with strength, coordination and control as they worked as a team to transfer the coloured balls around the playground, moving them from one scoop to another, held by the next person in the relay, as fast as they could and before the music timer ran out.
Our Kindergarten children are facinated with learning about the Olympics.
Their first event was designing and constructing their own torch to carry in the great torch relay.
They stationed themselves around the playground and using their imagination participated in lighting their torch and racing to the next person in our relay race until the torch travelled all over the playground and ended up back with our starting person, having travelled in a giant circle.
Today our Kindergarten children celebrated Christmas in July with their Grand friends.
Our morning started by sharing in the Happy Birthday song for all people born in July. We had two special Kindy children, plus Miss Jayde who received a little gift for celebrating their birthdays this month.
We enjoyed a Christmas feast together that included some yummy Gingerbread men made by our chef.
We popped bon-bons, and our Grand friends helped to read the jokes, and discover the special hats and presents that were hidden inside.
We sung some Christmas songs with them, created Gingerbread men and Christmas tree crafts, decorated Christmas cookies and shared in reading some Christmas stories.
We gifted some extra special presents made by the children for their special friends.
What an amazing morning we had at our Intergenerational Program.
The Kindergarten children have been exploring the reflection of colour, light & shadow through the use of an old projector.
They have loved experimenting with a range of materials that transform a plain wall in the construction area, into a beautiful artwork of reflected light.
Did you know we have a children’s council that meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
This months focus was the menu.
The children explained what they like, dislike and what they want to see on the menu.
We love having little voices input into our centre.
To end our NAIDOC Week of learning, the Kindergarten children engaged in an extra special aboriginal story about how birds first got their colours.
As the story was read, the colour of the bird appeared on the paper, and then with some help from our Kindergarten Hatchlings, the bird was filled with rainbow colours, just like in the story.
What a week our Kindergarten children have had engaging in NAIDOC Week as an opportunity for learning, connection and building knowledge about community.
Our children engaged in experiences like making rain sticks, weaving, exploring aboriginal artwork through puzzles, books and games, and joining in the "sea of fish" challange with a variety of fish creation provocations
These experiences helped us celebrate and connect with community and Country, and learn more about First Nations histories and cultures.
Todays visit with our grand friends was extra special. Today we celebrated national teddy bears picnic day with our grand friends.
We all took our special teddies to meet our grand friends and our grand friends even had a special teddy to meet us. One of our grand friends brought her teddies chair and book and read to us before morning tea. We enjoyed a picnic for morning tea. After morning tea we chose a bear book out of the book basket and sat with a grand friend to read.
“If you go down to the woods today your sure of a big surprise “ 🐻
Our pre-kindy class all learning about different emotions, what each emotion means and how we can safely express these.
😀😛😫
Todays cooking class was learning all about different vegetables and how to cut safely. Thank you to our amazing chef who allows us these learning opportunities every Wednesday. 👩🍳
Happy Wednesday 😍 we hope your day is as happy as ours😍
Our visit to our Grandfriends today was an exciting adventure, as our Kindergarten children shared morning tea and engaged in a Zumba class with their new friends.
One grandfriend showed us his extra special robot that transforms and moves when spoken too. We then shared with our grandfriends about the bee-bot robots we have at Kindy.
We always look forward to Thursdays and our visits with our granfriends.
This week we shared in the monthly birthday celebrations and sang happy birthday to all our granfriends who had birthdays in June , we shared some lovely cake with our granfriends. After the celebrations we enjoyed in some board game fun where there were lots of laughs.
We can’t wait to see our granfriends next week.
Our Kindy Group 2 excitedly put on their Hatchlings vests to visit our Grandfriends at our local retirement village today as part of our Intergenerational program.
After connecting and sharing stories over morning tea, our Kindy children and their Grandfriends worked together to create friendship bracelets and necklaces to gift each other and the other residents at the village.
Our Kindergarten children were so excited to welcome Uncle Boomerang back to our Kindy Studio.
He taught us some Yugembah language, how to play an aboriginal children's game with natural looseparts as the toys, how to make bird eggs and snakes out of clay, and encrouaged us to sing and dance with him to some of our favourite songs.
The kindy children had a visitor fly into the kindy room. The visitor couldn’t find the way so miss Brooke helped. Miss Brooke let the children feel our visitors feathers before releasing our feather friend up into the sky and flying away to which the children clapped.
Our Juniors are involved learners and our future leaders…regularly sharing their little voices, seeing their voices in their floor book and leaving their mark. Little voices full of ideas, thoughts and feelings.
The Juniors kitchen is OPEN-
todays juniors were cooking all sorts of wonderful things in the mud kitchen while developing so many skills…all through play!
Our Kindergarten children were so excited to discover a letter package had arrived in our kindy postbox over the weekend.
Our friends from Hatchlings Early Learning Centre Caboolture had sent us a reply to the letters we sent them. We eagerly read all about what they like to do at their Kindy and can't wait to write back to them again.
We used our interactive whiteboard to learn more about what their centre looks like and the similarities to our own kindy.
Today was a extremely special day as it was our first day of our intergenerational program.
We made some very special granfriends from the Rochedale garden’s village. We will be visiting our new granfriends every week to do special activities together, we are so excited for this program.
As today was our first day we met our new granfriends for morning tea and they took us on a tour of the beautiful gardens at the village.
