Wangetti Trail tree planting this Saturday ๐ฑ ๐ฃ
Hereโs your chance to join in, help out and see all the progress made so far. Enjoy a couple hours of planting followed by a BBQ (itโs like a reward). ๐ญ๐ฟ
The team at Holloways Beach Coastcare will be hosting, with the aim to revegetate alongside the newly built trail in Palm Cove. No experience needed, as holes will be pre-dug. So, bring the whole family!
What to bring:
- Sensible clothing (gloves if you have them)
- Enclosed shoes
- Water + sunscreen
Meeting at Seclusion Drive in Palm Cove for an 8am start. Park at the end of Seclusion Drive in Palm Cove and walk along the gravel track to the site location.

We are planting on Djabugay Nations Country and acknowledge their elders, past, present and emerging.
Thereโs blue skies, and itโs all systems go as work progresses on the Wangetti Trail Palm Cove - Port Douglas ๐ ๐ท
The chopper has been busy delivering concrete to sections along the trail to build the foundations for the 17 bridges that visitors will cross over in this first section from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach. ๐๐ด
The use of the helicopter ensures that equipment and building materials can be dropped into remote locations to minimise impacts on the local environment ๐

Wangetti Trail Community Tree Planting Day Success ๐ฟ๐
Over the weekend, 50+ locals and visitors came together to plant 600 native trees near the start of the Wangetti Trail at Palm Cove.
Revegetation efforts were led by the incredible team at Holloways Beach Coastcare, with pre-dug holes it was quick work for volunteers of all ages.
Participants were treated to a sneak peek at the progress on the 94km Wangetti Trail.
The first 7.8km section of the Wangetti South Trail from Palm Cove Jetty to Ellis Beach is now more than 50% complete and is due to be opened to hikers and bikers later in 2024. ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ตโโ๏ธ

ICYMI: The Wangetti Trail is well underway ๐๐
๐ฟThe trail is set to open up the 5,563 hectare Macalister Range National Park to public access for the very first time! With more than 80% of the trail winding its way through the Macalister Range National Park visitors will be spoilt with captivating wildlife, rich biodiversity, and lush vegetation. โฐ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ
Spanning from Palm Cove to Port Douglas, the 94-kilometre trail looks to be finished by the end of 2026, with the first 7.8km segment opening soon, so keep an eye out!

๐ฃ Things are really taking off on the Wangetti Trail this week, with helicopter works starting as part of construction of the Palm Cove to Ellis Beach section ๐
The use of the helicopter ensures that equipment and building materials can be dropped into remote locations to minimise impacts on the local environment ๐
The helicopter will be operating during daylight hours, Monday to Friday, up to four times a day until August 2024 from two lift locations:

๐Heli Life Depot at Mowbray.

The first bridge has been built on the Wangetti Trail!๐๐ง
The first section of the Trail from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach will have 17 bridges over watercourses once complete.
The bridges are being constructed using specially engineered low-maintenance composite fibre products to withstand 's most challenging weather conditions. ๐ฟ๐

The Wangetti Trail has achieved a major milestone! ๐
Today we celebrated the signing of the Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with the Djabugay Nations Applicant Group. ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ
Securing the ILUA with Djabugay Nations allows work to begin in National Park areas from Palm Cove to Mowbray River, while protecting cultural heritage.
This game-changing project kicked off in July 2023 and will attract thousands of visitors, and inject up to $300M into the local economy once complete ๐๐
