Congratulations and good luck to Callum, Sean and Devon! They are the finalists for the Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year at this year’s Queensland Training Awards, North Queensland region. 🙌✨
You would expect the two electricians working for Townsville City Council, Callum and Sean, to have a bit in common but they also share a parallel with some of Devon’s work with Pacific Marine Group.
Stop and think what it might be? 🚦
Maintaining and upgrading traffic lights are part of the job for council electricians, and repairing and upgrading navigational aids at Gladstone Harbour was one of the projects Devon worked on during his apprenticeship.
The winners will be announced for this award and 9 other categories on the evening of 20 July at Rydges Southbank Townsville. ⭐

The Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative goes beyond training to strengthen safety and community resilience in tough times.
Last year, a bushfire threatened Queensland’s Barkly highway, endangering traffic, pastoral lands, livestock, and the Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) camp. 🔥🌳
Responding swiftly, trainees from Myuma Pty Ltd’s Ready for Resources Project, along with DAC Rangers and civil crew came with their heavy machinery to build fire breaks.
The construction trainees used skills they learned on the job to control traffic, use loaders and graders, and contain the fires – protecting lives, property, and the environment. 🌞
Myuma received funding through Skilling Queenslanders for Work to employ up to 15 Indigenous young people to undertake civil construction work in north-west Queensland.
