Proper environmental and wildlife care should be taken when considering its redevelopment and Friends of Whites Hill Reserve, the local bushcare group are concerned this is not being properly assessed.
This week we talked about the proposed development of the Pine Mountain Quarry and what the council needs to take into consideration. Here is the petition that you can sign to tell the council what needs to be protected.

Woah so fun fact, the staghorn fern Platycerium bifurcatum found in Queensland is the first known case of plants showing a degree of eusociality like that found in ants or bees. This means that individuals differ in their role in the colony potentially allowing for the whole colony to function better. Those at the top are great at funneling water to the bottom while those at the bottom excel at collecting and storing water. Stored water can then be shared amongst individuals in times of scarcity via an extensive intertwined root system. If you would like to learn all about staghorn ferns, please listen to the latest episode which also includes an interview we had with Lucy Piper, the director of WorkforClimate.
We had the pleasure of chatting to EK Rose, the program director of the Food Connect Foundation and who organised People's Day on the 28th of July at the Food Connect Shed in Salisbury. People's Day will feature a local Farmers Market, workshops, a bushtucker walk and Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia will be MCing the event. For those that tuned in to EcoRadio two weeks ago, you would have heard our interview with Dr Georgia Crabbe-Wallace, one of the filmmakers of The Koalas. At the time, there was only one more screening in Brisbane but two encore screenings have been announced at New Farm Cinemas on the 13th and 14th of July at 2pm. There will also be a guest speaker, yet to be announced and will include a general discussion at the end on how we can prevent the further decline of koalas nationally.
For this EcoRadio is doing a giveaway where you could win two tickets and bring a friend along for the Sunday the 14th screening at 2pm. All you have to do is like and leave a comment just so we know who is active. The winner will be drawn 2pm Thursday. Good luck!!

Tune in tomorrow midday as we have the fortune of interviewing the directors and producers of The Koalas Film. This is a movie documentary that explores and highlights the current threats that koalas are facing with specific examples which can be extrapolated across Australia. The film was released around the country a week and a half ago and has one final playing session in Brisbane on the 30th of June at 3pm at New Farm Cinemas.
Woah fun fact, the Australian lungfish has dentition indistinguishable from a lungfish fossil located found in Lightning Ridge from the Early Cretaceous suggesting that it is the same species and hasn't changed at all in a hundred million years. This fossil and another found near Chinchilla suggests the Australian Lungfish originally had a wider distribution but the aridification of Australia in the Pleistocene has resulted in it's current small distribution
To mind out more cool things about the Australian Lungfish and the Liberal's proposed nuclear power plant check out the latest Ecoradio! (Also it's pretty fitting that a Pokemon based on a Coelacanth had this OG description considering how relatively closely related they are to lungfish)
