Breaking News:
Atmosperic greenhouse gas concentrations have hit new heights according to World Meteorological Organization data.
But seriously, is anyone awake?👇🏽
Breaking News: Greenhouse Gas Levels Hit New Heights, But Is Anyone Awake? Data released overnight by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in Switzerland is nothing short of staggering. Last week to help kick off the Canberra Writers Festival I had the honour of introducing Tim Winton to Canberra book lovers.
Tim had a yarn with our Festival Director Beejay Silcox on his new book Juice.
This is an important book! It’s so much more than another excellent piece of Australian fiction. It’s about taking responsibility now to avoid the shame of betraying our descendants.
I’ve written my first book review since high school as a result.
Review of Juice by Tim Winton: A Reflection on Climate, Consequence and Conscience Last week, I had the privilege of introducing Tim Winton to Canberra book lovers at ANU's Llewellyn Hall while acting as Chair of the Canberra Writers Festival. It was a moment that will stay with me - standing before an eager audience, welcoming one of Australia’s most celebrated authors to share...
Climate change isn’t the only thing that keeps me awake at night.
Microplastics are an emerging and insidious threat to our health and the environment. They’re already in the air we breathe, the food we eat and water we drink.
Read more here and share your thoughts.👇🏽
The Silent Threat Of Microplastics Climate change is certainly something that keeps me awake at night. There's plenty of climate science content to doom scroll on. But its not the only thing I'm worried about. Lately, another insidious threat is increasingly haunting my thoughts: microplastic pollution. The more I research it, the mo...
I stopped trusting Qantas greenwashing offsets years ago.
In the face of the and after flying with for over 50 years, I’ve decided that until it and other airlines get their acts together on genuine emissions reductions, the best strategy is to do my absolute best to avoid flying.
'You can't make a flight with fossil fuels sustainable': Climate advocates lodge greenwashing complaint against Qantas Climate advocates have lodged a complaint with the consumer watchdog over Qantas' sustainability and climate claims.
Fossil fuel companies and governments have known since 1968 when I was born that burning coal, oil and gas causes climate collapse.
That’s over half a century of deception and neglect.
Time’s overdue to hold them accountable.

Time to Hold Fossil Fuel Companies And Governments To Account I was born in 1968, the same year the American Petroleum Institute received a report warning that unchecked burning of fossil fuels could lead to catastrophic climate change. For all of my lifetime - over half a century - fossil fuel companies and governments have known their products harm our plane...
Climate action doesn’t have to be missing out on stuff.
It can be fun.

This Biodiversity Council report is a must read during Minister Tanya Plibersek’s Nature Positive Summit.
Australian Government spending is actually hugely ‘Nature Negative’.
50 times more government money is spent harming the environment than protecting it!👇🏽
‘Nature-negative’ – the federal government subsidies harming biodiversity | Biodiversity Council Australia The Australian Government spends around 50 times more on subsidising activities that harm the environment than it spends on helping biodiversity each year, according to an assessment undertaken by Biodiversity Council
Two years ago UN Secretary General António Guterres said, "we’re on a highway to climate hell with our foot still on the accelerator."
Time is well overdue to put our feet very firmly on the breaks.👇🏽
Bracing for Impact: UN Emissions Gap Report to Emphasise Climate Emergency Each year ahead of the Climate COPs, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) releases a brief for delegates on the state of play of climate action. This year's report will be released in just a few weeks, and early indications suggest its findings will be anything but encouraging. Global emi...
The head of the IPCC says the Paris agreement target of 1.5C is blown, 2C is dead without a miracle, the world is heading for 3C in the lifetime of our kids today, and we would possibly hit 4C.
Meanwhile, Australia keeps digging up coal and pumping out gas!
It’s too late to save Britain from overheating, says UN climate chief Interview: Prof Jim Skea warns the world risks 3C of global warming by 2100 unless it changes course
My friend Nurgul is a Uyghur community leader in Australia. She just started an indefinite hunger strike outside Parliament House, calling on the Australian government to recognise the that is occurring in East Turkistan which China invaded in 1949 and now calls Xinjiang. 3 1/2 million people are in jail, forced labour camps and forced re-education camps, because of their religion or ethnicity.
This is a story that needs to be told.
Emissions from Australia’s colossal and still growing coal exports are swamping out our domestic emissions reductions efforts.
It’s like giving with one hand and taking away more than double with the other. 👇🏽
Australia's Massive Coal Contradiction This is a story that needs to be told. As the world's largest coal exporter, the scale and emissions from Australia's coal industry is staggering. While we might be making ground on reducing domestic emissions, these efforts are being undermined and overwhelmed by the massive global impact of our co...

Moving and reusing electrons is much more efficient than burning molecules.
That’s why transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy will reduce global energy demand and costs.
My latest blog on why “Electrification is Efficiency”.👇🏽
Electrification is Efficiency As the world transitions to clean energy, we’re going to be using a lot more electricity. But total energy use will actually go down. That’s because, as the International Energy Agency puts it, "electrification is efficiency." But what does this mean and why is this true? The answer lies in the ...
Ocean Acidification has been in the news of late.
In Australia, thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in fisheries activity are at risk.
Globally, food security and livelihoods of 3 billion people are at stake.
Here’s my summary of the What, Why and When.👇🏽

With France warning that the world needs to be preparing for up to 4°C of global heating, and Tanya Plibersek still approving more coal mines, time is well overdue to move from ‘net zero’ or ‘real zero’ climate targets.
Read, share and follow my blog.👇🏽
Real Zero, Not ‘Net Zero’ Is What's Important Two things happened yesterday on opposite sides of the world that demonstrated the urgency and importance of taking real climate action. Over in Europe, France's Minister for Ecological Transition declared that the world should be preparing for temperatures up to 4°C higher than pre-industrial leve...
We need climate action not selfies Minister Tanya Plibersek.
Posting Bilby photos while approving 1.3 billion tonnes of extra coal mine emissions equal to the yearly emissions of 65 million Aussie families would be funny if it wasn’t so insulting, especially to our children.
I’m beyond frustrated. Call the Minister’s office on (02)93790700 to tell her you’re cross too.
Peter Dutton's nuclear plan is incomprehensible and without detail. My 83yo mum’s nanna rug crochet tutorial makes more sense to me.👇🏽 . 🧶
Earth systems science means global warming’s impact doubles in the places where we live and try to grow food.
2-3°C of warming globally will actually mean up to 6°C of extra heat for most of us.
Read and share my blog.👇🏽
Global Warming's Real Impact: Double The Heat Where We Live And Farm As global emissions keep growing and the climate crisis intensifies, Professor Stefan Rahmstorf of the renowned Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research has a sobering reminder: when we talk about global warming of 2-3°C, the reality on land, where we live and grow our food, will be much worse...
Letting fossil fuel companies produce their own offsets is like putting an arsonist in charge of fire safety inspection.
What could go wrong?!👇🏽
‘Perverse’: Woodside, Shell spend millions getting into offset game Fossil fuel producers are buying large stakes in carbon companies and land to run their own carbon offset projects. Experts and insiders want that banned.

I Made It 4,750km Across Australia: Outcomes And Thanks I feel proud but also a bit nostalgic now that my trip has come to an end. What started as a solo ride across Australia...
Large cruise ships emit more CO2 in one day than 83,000 cars.
Emissions per passenger for Antarctic cruises are the same as those for one European person for an entire year.
Care about the climate? Skip the cruise.👇🏽
