“We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.”- In Flanders Fields, John McCrae

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month - we will remember them.

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, 1914

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

It is Armistice Day, Poppy Day, Remembrance Day and Veterans Day today on 11 November. We shall always remember lest we forget 🙏

Rest in peace, 3rd Sergeant Gavin Chan Hiang Cheng, my fellow brother from the Singapore Armoured Regiment. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this hour of grief. Once an Armour, Always an Armour 👍

I was very fortunate to have visited the Twin Towers to buy tickets for Les Misérables, explore the World Trade Centre and celebrate Christmas with my family and friends back in December 1998. Unfortunately 3 years later, these New York City landmarks were gone for good. Today marks the 16th anniversary of 9/11. Honour and respect cost nothing. Freedom is not free. We must never take the peace we enjoy now for granted but remain vigilant 24/7. Lest we forget.

"If we make consistent effort, based on proper education, we can change the world. We are selfish, that’s natural, but we need to be wisely selfish, not foolishly selfish. We have to concern ourselves more with others’ well-being, that’s the way to be wisely selfish. We have the ability to take the long-term benefit into account. I think it is possible to make real change in this century." ~ Words of wisdom by the Dalai Lama, just 5 hours ago.

"1000 attend ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Singapore
The ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Kranji War Memorial
Thursday 25 April 2013

Around 1000 people attended ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Kranji War Memorial Cemetery in Singapore on Thursday.

Each year on 25 April, Australians gather to remember the servicemen and women who have served their nation in times of war, and in conflicts and on peacekeeping operations.

On 25 April 1915, 98 years ago, thousands of young Australians landed on the shores of Gallipoli beginning a hard-fought campaign that lasted eight months.

More than 8,700 lost their lives during the Gallipoli campaign, with more than 2,000 killed or wounded on the first day alone.

Each Anzac Day Australians take the opportunity to remember the sailors, soldiers, airmen and women who have given so much in the defence of Australia.

This year marks 70 years since work began on the Burma-Thailand railway with all of the suffering that entailed at places like Hellfire Pass, which resulted in the tremendous loss of life and suffering of the Allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers forced to work on the railway.

Some 12,500 POWs lost their lives working on the railway, with more than 2,800 Australians never making it home.

As the centenary of the First World War approaches, including the Centenary of Anzac Day in 2015, the Australian community’s interest and enthusiasm for the Anzac story grows."
