(English below) Eergisteren heeft de Nederlandse School in Bangkok een bezoek gebracht aan de ambassade. De leerlingen hebben geleerd over het werk van de ambassade en de diplomaten, maar ook over de verschillende sectoren die Thailand en Nederland met elkaar verbinden.
Vervolgens hebben de kinderen een rondleiding gehad door de oude residentie, en hebben ze enthousiast meegedaan met onze quiz en een puzzeltocht!
Het was een waar genoegen om de kinderen te vertellen over ons werk.

Two days ago, the Dutch School in Bangkok visited our Embassy. The students learned about the work we do and what a diplomat is, as well as the various sectors that connect Thailand and the Netherlands.
Next they had a tour through the old residence, and participated in a quiz and a puzzle assignment. We were delighted to educate the children about our work.

Remembering Christiaan Slotemaker de Bruine: A Visionary Behind Floriade

It is with deep sadness that we at Oranjefeest Canberra Inc., mourn the passing of Christiaan Slotemaker de Bruine, one of the brilliant minds behind Canberra’s beloved Floriade.

As a visionary landscape architect with the Department of Capital Territory, Christiaan saw an opportunity to create something truly special for Canberra’s 75th birthday and Australia’s Bicentenary of European settlement. His proposal for a one-off spring flower festival, inspired by the renowned Keukenhof gardens in the Netherlands, has since blossomed into the premier annual event we now know as Floriade.

Christiaan’s dream has become an integral part of Canberra’s cultural fabric, bringing joy and beauty to Canberra.

Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. As we walk through the vibrant displays of Floriade, we not only celebrate the beauty of the flowers but also honor the remarkable vision and passion of Christiaan Slotemaker de Bruine. His legacy will forever bloom in the hearts of all who experience this festival, with a special place in the hearts of the Dutch community in Canberra.

We are excited to confirm that Sinterklaas will be running this year! The event will be held at a different indoor venue with a much more open space, so crowding should not be an issue as it was last year. With more information to follow.
