The Canberra International Women’s Day lunch was a huge success. It was a wonderful time to celebrate the achievements of women, while acknowledging the path ahead. A huge thank you to all of our guests who came and joined the conversation 💜

Meet Katja Henaway! Katja is one of our speakers for our International Women’s Day Event, held on 8 March 2024. 💜
Katja is a renowned business woman known for her innovative leadership and development programs for First Nations and people of colour.
Katja joins us with significant experience in some of the worlds largest organisations, and we look forward to hearing what they have to say on accelerating women’s economic development.
Introducing our first Speaker, Mereseini Rakuita, who is a gender equality champion, and was the youngest female politician to be elected to parliament in 2014.
She is currently the Pacific Community Principal Strategic Lead, driving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the Pacific region.
We are honoured to have her join us all the way from Suva for this International Women’s Day.

Meet the UNWA Canberra Chapter 💜
In everything we do, and all we aim to achieve, we are committed to advancing gender equality and empowering women.
We work together to support the work of by raising funds for and creating awareness of UN Women’s work in the Pacific and across the world 🌏👭
We represent the wonderful community of volunteers who ecco this work to the Canberra community.
Georgia is one of the UNWA Canberra Chapter’s wonderful Co-Chairs. She is a Senior Consultant at KPMG and a final year Law/Commerce Student at the ANU. Through work for non-profit initiatives and internships, Georgia has strived to champion women’s empowerment and accelerate the progress of equality. Given the economic and social influence of the law, a particular interest of Georgia’s is the impact of law on gender equality and empowerment.
Caitlin is one of the UNWA Canberra Chapter’s wonderful Co-Chairs, and has been volunteering for for over 4 years. Caitlin is a woman in STEM, working as a Software Engineer for . She is passionate about web accessibility, working to create digital products that are more inclusive for everybody to use. Caitlin extends her advocacy and her passion for women’s rights through various public speaking opportunities, including workshops with Code Like and Girl, as a panelist for Women in Stem Leadership conference and advises on the University of Canberra Interaction Design course advisory panel as an industry specialist.
We have something new to share with you all!! IWD@Work has just launched. It is our way to get the complete workplace experience of UN Women Australia’s International Women’s Day 2024 events for all staff members. IWD@Work gives everyone in your workplace the opportunity to learn, share and celebrate IWD together.

The IWD Canberra event at the Canberra Convention Centre, is our city’s contribution to the global celebration of IWD. 🌸
This year’s theme highlights the financial inequity in the workplace and society and offers a glimpse into the economic, political and social achievements of women in 2024. This is a day to celebrate and review how far women have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development, providing an opportunity to unite, network and mobilise funds to foster meaningful change. 🌍
