Working with a client with Parkinsons Disease (PD) to strengthen and manage back pain. Using the stability chair provides some assistance with the movement/mobility and range of motion. While the user also uses strength, control and co-ordination to perform the exercise.
Exercise is an essential part of managing and slowing the progression of PD. Its a vital part of maintaining balance, mobility, and activities of daily living and quality of life.
Progressing some shoulder rehab on the reformer today. I love the versatility and variety this apparatus offers. Utilising core activation, co-ordination, stability and control. Beautiful lines and control demonstrated here.

October is breast cancer awareness month!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and with over 20,000 people estimated to be diagnosed in 2021, breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia.
Being diagnosed with breast cancer is overwhelming and exercise is probably the last thing on your mind... but the research suggests that perhaps it shouldn't be.
Exercise (prescribed by a qualified professional) can help with many of the symptoms and side effects of treatment, and can also help to improve treatment outcomes.
It's important to note that exercise MUST be prescribed by a health professional, like an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, who understands the complexities of exercising during chemotherapy and radiation treatment. If a mastectomy is required, they can also help you to move safely as you recover from surgery.
Physical Activity & Prostrate Cancer Body Rehab September is prostate cancer awareness month in Australia
Did you know..... exercise really is part of the medicine and prevention
Regular muscle strengthening exercises can reduce cancer mortality, according to a systematic review of epidemiological studies.
Researchers found that resistance training (like weights, squats etc) can reduce the probability of dying from cancer by 14%.
When these exercises are combined with aerobic activities, the benefit is even greater, potentially reducing mortality by 28%.
“Physical activity has been associated with a reduced risk of several types of cancer, but it was unclear what kinds of exercise had the best results. In our study, we found evidence that muscle strength training can not only reduce cancer incidence and mortality but also have an even better effect when associated with aerobic activities, such as walking, running, swimming and cycling,” said one of the study's authors.
Yet another study highlighting the benefits of including regular strength training (at least twice a week!) into your life. 💪
Friday funny
But in all seriousness, no - it doesn't.
So excited to share this new addition. Have you tried one of these Pilates reformers? This is probably my most favourite piece of exercise equipment because it is so so versatile and can be used from low to high functioning, easy to complex. I love it, and am so excited to share it with my clients. Want to know more or experience a session send me a message.
Ooeeee exciting things coming soon to Cleveland.......

Men's Health Week - Exercise isn't just for building muscles! This week is dedicated to Men's Health Week and we want to encourage more men to exercise, move and most importantly, feel better.
Exercise Right Week 24th - 30th May. Let's keep moving!
A study of the relationship between physical activity and cancer has shown that greater levels of leisure-time physical activity were associated with a lower risk of developing 13 different types of cancer.
The risk of developing seven cancer types was 20 percent (or more) lower among the most active participants (90th percentile of activity) as compared with the least active participants (10th percentile of activity).
These findings, from researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health, and the American Cancer Society, confirm and extend the evidence for a benefit of physical activity on cancer risk and support its role as a key component of population-wide cancer prevention and control efforts.

🔥WORKOUT WARRIOR🔥
This weeks workout warrior goes to Terry Ohanlon 👏👏👏
Terry suffers from Friedreich Ataxia, a progressive, degenerative neurological condition. Currently there's neither treatment nor cure for FA but while its progress can't be reversed, it has been shown conclusively that regular exercise slows that progress down.
Terry has been training with our AEP Toni for the past year now and he has shown some amazing improvement!
Lend Us Some Muscle is a global fundraising programme led by Australia's Friedreich Ataxia Research Association (fara). If you would like to help out and donate, go to https://au.lendussomemuscle.com/2020/terence-o-hanlon
