There’s been a lot of my face on this feed lately and I thought I’d share some drawings and designs I’m still working on that you might not have seen yet 😌✏️

An Eastern Osprey, potentially holding all the answers 🦅 and an Indian Elephant finding his way up Muttonbird Island with his trusty Magpie messenger.

Just experimenting, they may find themselves somewhere completely different next time you see them 😻✨

Alyson Pearson aka Alykat Creative has been a well known fixture in the Coffs Coast art scene for some time now. Between her distinctive artworks and having provided a unique gallery and event space for the community for the last few years as well, Ally has been at the centre of it all. Since closing her physical space she has returned to being an artist and creator.. And we are super excited to catch up with her and see what she’s got on the cards heading into the next phase of Alykat!

Coffs City Centre

Thanks so much to Bryant McKinnon Lawyers in Coffs for snapping up this huge and regal “Horses Will Play,” which will be proudly displayed at their Gordon St office😲🎠👏

Ben saw this one when he attended my opening at King Tide Brewing, as both he and Heather continually attend and support many creative and community events.

I love when local businesses support and invest in other local businesses (including artists!) it keeps the local economy wheel going and keeps jobs (and artists) in our beautiful area 👌

A couple of short but sweet cuties just listed on my website. “Bee Gentle on my Heart”, an important reminder to any new acquaintance. And a cheeky galah playing “Peek-a-boo” 😛

Fun fact: I really wanted to call the galah piece Peek-a-beau, as I think it’s pronounced “boo” in French and refers to a handsome/beautiful mate, but I couldn’t bring myself to have the Australian pronunciation ruin it, so playing it safe with “boo”, let me know if you think I should just go for beau though, I do love a play on words 🥹

Coffs City Centre

It’s happening this Saturday from 6pm, my solo exhibition at King Tide Brewing Coffs Coast 💖

The last time I worked with King Tide on the beer can design for The Laneway Guardian, I got some fun photos with Jay And the trees photography and Vic at Coffs City Centre I thought I’d share as I don’t want to reveal too much about the handful of new work that’s going to be featured or how lovely the framed original drawings look for The Whimsical World of Alykat Creative / Art exhibition & gallery launch.

Pop by King Tide from 6pm and enjoy the Champagne Bar in the Mezzanine gallery upstairs, you’ll have a chance to win 1 of 5 Alykat show bags, have a mingle, and check out the artwork.

Another jam packed year that feels like it was just a few months long 😬

This has been a big year of personal growth for me (and I know it has for a lot of people), in ways that I didn’t expect and that weren’t always comfortable or easy, but I’m reminded once again – that’s how it works 😌

Creatively, closing Alykat Gallery earlier in the year has revealed a sort of identity and purpose crisis which I’m learning needs patience and not jumping into the next big thing out of habit or boredom. Instead, I’m walking into next year with lessons learned, direction and drive 😻🤓

Thanks to everyone who’s engaged with what I put out there and for those who’ve invested in my art, told their friends about my work and recommended me for opportunities, that all helps pay the bills and keeps the dream alive 🥹🫶👩‍🎤

‘Halfway’ exhibition opened last week at Yarrila Arts and Museum Coffs Harbour and is a collective journey exploring the changing identity of Coffs as a regional City undergoing cultural and physical transformations. This is my commissioned artwork for the exhibition.

Alyson Pearson (aka Alykat Creative) is a local artist who grew up in Coffs Harbour and experienced the growing pangs of a forever expanding small town, turned coastal City. Are we There Yet? takes us on a nostalgic journey featuring old theme parks and kitsch postcards of the region reimagined with Alyson’s signature digital collage and illustrations to consider the collective memory of growing up in Coffs while looking to the future, asking the question - Are we there yet?

8 December 2023 - 11 February 2024.

This exhibition is supported by the Dobell Exhibition Grant, funded by the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation and managed by Museums & Galleries of NSW.

I’ve had so many people ask what I’ve been up to since making the tough decision to close Alykat Gallery in February, which also starts lots of conversations around burn out and support for small business, particularly solo businesses.

It’s suuuch a thing! So many chats and we’re all feeling it so it’s been really exciting catching up with Shane O'Brien – who many coffs crew would know from his time running Coast until fairly recently, and hearing his own experiences with burn out and how passionate he is to help others navigate this huge eyesore in many small and creative businesses in our area.

So he’s got 6 degrees co onboard, invited myself and Art Therapist and counsellor margcoutts to come together for a 2-day ArtCircus Creatives in Business Retreat! Think interactive workshops, mindfulness activities and creative play, all designed to help creative small business owners and Creativepreneurs access new levels of direction and wellbeing.

It’s on this Thursday and Friday, it’s FREE, and it’ll be an inspiring get-together of like-minded people in the stunning new Business@Yarrila space at Yarrila Arts and Museum. Another remaster of one of my earlier designs that was originally cropped to a circle, My Happy Place, which is actually the Coffs Creek off Brodie Drive where I grew up 🥰

The design now features my dog on one of our walks (a real photo, even though it looks like he’s walking on water at super high tide!) and the addition of those once in a blue moon fireflies, with the original dragonflies and butterflies ✨

It’s a calm and magical breath of fresh air 😌
