“True happiness is something that you don’t have by yourself, you have true happiness when it’s radiating from the people all around you.” - Tim Newth, thank you for these words during your Cushion Concert as we celebrated your 35 years working at Tracks. It was our pleasure to have successfully kept this one a secret right down to the last moment as you walked in the studio. Here are some pics from the wonderful time we had reflecting on all the joy that has come with your presence in our lives through community and movement. Huge thanks to everyone that was able to join us and to those who contributed words and thoughts from afar to make sure we sent him off right.

Retiring

After a period of extended leave, Tim Newth AM has formally stepped down as the Co-Artistic Director of Tracks.

"It is wonderful to know that because nothing stays the same, anything is possible.

Tracks for me is a community of people who share the same values, we often call ourselves the ‘Tracks family’. It’s not that we all come from the same training, cultures, ancestry, or life experience, it’s the company's values that bind us.

We value each person, their stories, and their diverse heritage. We acknowledge our interconnectedness to the land we live and work. And our spirits are fed by the vitality of our combined living cultures, informed by our traditions and contemporary lives.

It has been my job to hold this for over three decades. I have not held it alone, we have worked collaboratively and refined this process. Understanding that together, we can create something far greater than any one of us can on our own. It has been these people, ‘you, the Tracks family’ and this place that has fired my imagination and kept my creativity alive over this time. Many lifelong friendships have been formed. What a rich life you have given me. I thank you and am grateful to each one of you.

So therefore I have not been the sole Artistic Director of this company, I have been the Co Artistic Director. From the beginning, it’s been David who has been there with me; when the vehicle gets its third flat tire, or the road is flooded and we are stranded, or when I totally lose the plot. You have taught me, amongst other things, to take small steps toward my dreams and not to take any one of those steps for granted. You have enabled me to be the quiet nest maker, while you draw together the masses with your good humor and skill. We have both had to actively learn to listen deeply to each other, even when we found this difficult. It’s been this listening to each other and the people around us that has enabled us to be authentic and to build the company we have. I thank you for your patience and for a friendship that I couldn’t have imagined was possible within one’s lifetime."

Tim is currently focusing on being a Zen Buddhist practitioner in the Plum Village tradition as founded by Thich Nhat Hanh.
