Welcome Nick!!!
Nick completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Masters of Physiotherapy at Griffith University on the Gold Coast in 2021.
Since then, Nick has worked in both a hospital and private practice setting, gaining valuable experience in post-orthopaedic rehabilitation, sports injury rehabilitation, and living with neurological/chronic degenerative disorders. Nick hails from Queensland, and on his lap around Australia has decided to reside in Dunsborough to explore the surf breaks and mingle with the locals. He is passionate about all things sport, getting out in the great outdoors, and is eager to meet everyone here at Down South Physio.
Special Day in our Aussie calendar.
Visited the National ANZAC Centre-Museum in Albany couple of years ago…strongly recommend when journeying the south coast.

Hey sports fam! Let's talk about the real MVP of sports - our brain! 🧠💪 In the fast-paced world of sports, concussions can happen in the blink of an eye. Many players aren’t aware that a concussion can occur without direct contact and without losing consciousness. That's why immediate on-field assessment is a game-changer, and did you know Physiotherapists are trained to conduct these assessments and refer-on for any necessary medical management?
Why? Prompt accurate assessment means quicker care, reducing the risk of long-term effects and quicker retrun to play timeframes!
Knowledge is power: coaches, players, and parents, stay informed on concussion symptoms and protocols. Speak to our trained physiotherapists at Down South Physio for more information or if you would like us to come to your club and provide an information session for staff, players and parents. Together, we can keep the game thrilling and safe!
Have you heard of "The sweet spot ✅ versus the danger zone 🚫" ?
At the tail end of winter sports we have been seeing a lot of overuse injuries in the clinic.
The acute:chronic workload ratio is a formula that can track if you are in a state of overload and high injury risk.
*chronic load refers to the average workload in the last month
*acute load is the workload in the current week
*If your ratio sits below 0.8 or above 1.25 then you are at injury risk for the following 2 weeks
This is essential when considering when to return to sport following injury, increased loads such as weekend tournaments, and how to increase training without going too hard and too fast
Our Women’s Health Physio (Bree) spending another week out on the lands providing continence and pelvic health physio services to aboriginal women. 7 communities over 5 days; Warburton, Wingellina, Blackstone, Jameson, Kiwirrkurra, Warakurna and Wanarn.
A truely unique and rewarding experience.
Case study….
14yo presented to physiotherapy with an acute right foot injury. This was diagnosed via X-ray in hospital as slight irregularity in the metatarsals, unlikely a fracture. The patient was placed in a camboot and discharged.
Pain persisted for 1 week and subsequently a MRI was ordered by the physiotherapist which showed fractures in the metatarsals.
Learning point: X-ray can miss subtle fractures and further imaging may be needed to identify such issues. If it looks like a fracture, smells like a fracture then it probably is. Scanning is such circumstances is 100% warranted and needed.
The patient is now receiving appropriate management and set to make a full recovery.
Heads up everybody, Darryn Sargant (Peak Podiatry), also the Fremantle Dockers Sport Podiatrist, is linking with The Dunsborough Running Club and Down South Physio. 🏃🏻♂️👟

Gore alert**** Another serious finger(s) injury at women’s game a few weeks back. Suspected compound feature involving the 3rd and 4th phalanx. Amazing management from all involved and turned out to be double compound dislocations. Ouch!!!!
Thank you to our major sponsor for 2023 Trevor and the team at Down South Physio. Without this awesome business our first season in SWNFL would not have happened.

Osteoarthritis, seen here in the knee, is a degenerative condition of varied degrees of inflammation of the soft tissues lining the bones. Typically, the weight bearing joints are affected (knees, hips, ankles, feet). Unfortunately, this disease is degenerative, meaning once you have a loss of cartilage you cannot grow it back. But the good news is you can stall the progression with correct management. There are a multitude of internal and external factors that contribute to the disease and as physiotherapists we are expertly trained to identify these factors and guide management. In short, watch out of signs and symptoms (swelling, pain, stiffness and of gradual onset) and see your physio.

As the winter sports seasons are kicking off I’ve seen a lot of finger injuries these past few weeks. A poorly managed finger injury can lead to less than ideal outcomes in the future. If your finger looks like one these photos….. please get it assessed and diagnosed early!
