In this very busy juggling schedule of activities between the needs of the project, our upcoming “stitching stories” and personal commitments , well my mind wanders back to India and when I will go back and where it will take me.
We are now working with artisans groups all over India . My time in Gujarat was an awakening to so many incredible craftspeople and and hs family in Ajrakhpur kept a piece of my heart . I discovered Ajrakh 10years ago in the workshop with a few@metres folded on a table and it took 10years to meet the man who made it. Our first capsule collection of Ajrakh has been so successful that we have a second one coming in a few weeks. This cap sleeve long mashru silk dress has to be a favourite and looks like a Persian princess in it.
This is how ajrakh makes you fell so browse through the past pieces of this collection

When chilly weekends mean cozy knits layering and picking a good book and a cozy corner .
We are in for some book recommendation.Ours is Chai time at Cinnamon gardens by
The Cinnamon Gardens is a nursing home in Sydney, which was revamped in the 80s by migrant couple Maya and Zakhir after they fled civil war in their home of Sri Lanka. As Tamils and academics, the couple experienced persecution, torture and intimidation, forcing them to leave. Cinnamon Gardens offers a new beginning and the couple transform it into a sanctuary for culturally diverse seniors. A beautiful read about inclusivity, diversity and Australia’s multicultural identity.

With our primary focus of each patchwork waste not want not pieces being sustainably we want to enlighten you all on the process and dedication to creating this capsule and our strong intention to stand for making a difference.
In a world overwhelmed by brands creating cheap, fast fashion (leaving the wellbeing of people and the planet in their wake), The ANJELMS Project aims to prioritise sustainability, embrace creativity and empower people throughout our Waste Not, Want Not program. On a mission to utilise our own deadstock textiles, Gaëlle was inspired to create a new capsule collection crafted almost entirely from upcycled offcuts.

Not only are these pieces a testament to making a difference and pillar for a movement and change in the fashion industry, we also would love to highlight the quality and detail in each piece.
Leftover fabrics and offcuts from previous collections have been cut into small squares and meticulously patchworked together to create a completely new textile by the incredible woman

The naturally dyed mid-weight khadi cotton is breathable for summer and insulating for winter, making it perfect for year-round use. Once constructed, the manufacturing process benefits the Pushkar community further by providing employment to The Stitching Ladies who lovingly stitch each garment by hand, and are compensated on a per-piece basis.

As part of the Waste Not, Want Not program (and a perfect complement to the new Plant Dyed Patchwork collection), The Stitching Ladies have also created a series of hand-stitched plant dyed quilts which will be displayed at  the Fremantle Fibonacci Centre during the Stitching Stories exhibition  as part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial 2024 from August 16-25. Gaëlle has arranged for some members of the group to fly to Fremantle and attend the exhibition, which will be their first time ever leaving their village.

Dave the date and come along to experience and be apart of this incredible day…

It’s all in the details the talented…

We are thrilled to introduce our collaborative capsule collection, featuring the exquisite embroidery work of Gitaben Bhavesh Rabari. This collection is a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary style, showcasing the rich heritage of Dhebariya Rabari embroidery. Gitaben hails from the Rabari community of Kutch, where the art of embroidery has been a cultural staple for generations.

Our capsule collection embodies Gitaben’s dedication, featuring pieces that are vibrant, detailed, and woven with stories from her heritage. Her unique approach of integrating traditional motifs like peacocks, camels, and trees with modern design elements makes each item in this collection a masterpiece. By collaborating with Gitaben, we aim to honor her craft and provide a platform for her to share her extraordinary artistry with the world. Each piece in this collection not only showcases the beauty of Rabari embroidery but also represents Gitaben’s journey, dreams, and the vibrant culture of the Rabari community.

Captivating images of our two day natural dye workshop through Bagru.

The tiny village of Bagru is located in the desert state of Rajasthan, what a beautiful experience to be immersed in this stunning village with the people and their traditional techniques with natural dying.
The Indians were the first to experiment with natural dying centuries ago, The community here have around 22,000 people and are known for preserving the three century year old tradition of block printing.

The beautiful green colour is obtained by boiling pomegranate peels for up to two hours the fabric/cloth is then sprayed with haldi solution.
The cloth is then colours using water based alum solution as a result the hue changes from blue to green.🌿

The natural dying process is a wonderful sustainable and economically viable solution for textile design and we are so proud to be producing our designs in such a way.
Choose sustainable, make a difference.

Happy World Environment day!
So what will create change ? People will.

Last Friday I went to the launch of IOTA2024 and I witnessed a collective gathering of craftspeople who were celebrating the connection to our land, our diversity and the wealth of cultural heritage that comes with sharing craft knowledge and skills.
Craft , the recognition of its value as an inter generational , cross cultural and storytelling medium will change the world.
Craft heals, craft advocates , craft rebels , craft is an international way to communicates ideas, craft is a medium to connect and most of all craft is deeply connected to our land .
Two days ago , I posted about my 30years of marriage .
This seemed to resonate with so many of ways.
I have wondered why my travels and meeting , working with many craft communities fills my heart with a sense of peace, calm and I thrive on the connections I make , the learnings , the sharing of knowledge and experiences .
Well , all the craftspeople I have met lead their life like I approach my relationship with my husband. It starts with unconditional love and commitment then it is one day at a time, learning, making mistakes, trying again, finding solutions, being the best person you can be at it, immersing yourself , working hard at it , celebrating successes and sharing your learnings with your children, your community.
Craft is life, it is also the glue of a vibrant community and one that respects their environment , takes from nature without plundering it.
So to all the craftspeople I have met , thank you You are the change makers, the custodians of our world .
Fiona wright and the team of , , , , Nisha and Brighu and the team, .sidrcraft , and so many more including my craft community in western Australia.
Finally I would like to menti the wonderful work of n bringing together a wonderful craft community together with . Th course I am taking with her guidance has reinforced my passion and resolve to create a platform for

30 years ago I married my best friend. It took me 5 years of one and off long distance relationship to take that leap of faith and arrive as a 20 year old with my suitcase to give our love a real chance . What a journey it has been, we did a lot of growing up together , we fought , we made up , we laughed and we raised two beautiful daughters . To meet someone who shows you what unconditional love means especially at a time when you don’t like yourself so much and continues to do so every day for 30years is a blessing I feel really privileged of.
For anyone knowing us, they will often point how remotely different we are but during these 30years , we have learnt to give each other the space to be ourselves, the space to create, the space to think , to reflect and even sometimes to get mad at each other so that we can support each other when the other is low , celebrate each other successes .
We both feel incredibly blessed for the lowlife we have , the family and friends who have supported us and created special memories with us.
We will now start planning the next 30years.
