Kinds of Light kicks off in 2024 with a co-curation with Boorloo-via-Montreal label Mystery & Wonder () ✨ E Millar will present a live instantiation of her artificial field recording project. Craig Pedersen, joined by Michael Terren, Djuna Lee, Josten Myburgh & Sage Pbbbt, will perform his composition “residues”.

〰️〰️〰️

E Millar is a builder of intricate kinetic sound sculptures using recycled consumer-grade electronics and found objects. Her instruments together accumulate to form what sounds uncannily like a tiny forest: bristling and subtly shifting.

Craig Pedersen is a composer and trumpet player. His collective compositional output, largely in the form of text-based scores on index cards, embodies the dream of an ever-shifting body of work, flexible to the expressive needs of the present.

We invite Western Australian Emerging Artists, between the ages of 18-30 to apply for the Studio 7 Residency Program.

The Studio 7 Residency Program includes:

- A fully subsidised studio space (5m x 6m) for a 12 month period between 15 Jan 2024 and 15 Jan 2025 in a central Fremantle location (only a 2 minute walk from Fremantle train station).

- Instillation, practical and professional support from our staff.

- The opportunity to work in a creative environment amongst more than 40 other studio artists.

- A fully subsidised 2 week solo exhibition at PS upstairs or downstairs, at the end of the residency period.

Amongst our 2 gallery spaces and 36 artists studios, we will be reserving the spacious Studio 7 for the recipient of our Program. With 30m2 of floor space, Studio 7 is an ideal space for artists with experimental, physical or materially driven practices.

We want to connect with all applicants, as we search for an artist who will benefit from the physicality of this large studio space and the support of PS Art Space’s creative community.

PS welcomes proposals from artists working in all artistic mediums. Whether your interest lies in pushing the boundaries of your respective discipline, being conceptually and curatorially ambitious, or materially focused experimentation and technique, we want to hear from you!
