This beautiful VBAC Mumma birthed her baby in just over an hour of arrival at birth suite!
Such an honour to be witness to her power.

I love how she mentions the socks as I remember at the time feeling a tad awkward in my sock application 😆 yet this was something that stood out to her as a special memory. A reminder to me that sometimes the smallest gestures can speak the loudest.

I’ve been blessed to work in this special room in Birth Suite at Geelong Hospital a few times.
Feeling deeply connected to the many women who have birthed before us and the magic and sacredness of this space. ✨✨✨

Misty began her belly dance journey almost 20 years ago as a fun activity to share with her Mum. What initially started as a weekly class for fun and exercise swiftly blossomed into a transformative experience that transcended the boundaries of a hobby. Her passion for this ancient Middle Eastern dance form propelled her into the realm of performances, where she graced the stage as part of troupes, engaging in mesmerizing duets, and even captivating audiences with the occasional solo act at a variety of events, as well as teaching classes and workshops within her community.
The allure of belly dance lies not only in its graceful movements and captivating rhythms but also in the profound sense of connection and empowerment it fosters among women. When women gather to share this ancient art form, something truly magical transpires. The dance becomes a vessel through which stories are told, emotions are expressed, and bonds are forged.
As Misty embarked on her work in the birth world it became apparent that these two worlds would somehow collide. Finding fluidity and movement through their body is a wonderful tool to prepare women for birth and beyond. Through the art of belly dance, Misty empowers women, encouraging them to embrace their bodies, celebrate their femininity, and embark on their own unique journeys of self-discovery.

My breastfeeding journey with my 2nd was bloody hard! I had been under a fair bit of stress during my pregnancy and I believe this may have impacted my bodies ability to produce what it needed to nourish my baby. I worked hard, reallllllllly hard, to continue feeding him. I was lucky to get some donor milk to top him up and help him thrive. I also managed to continue breastfeeding until he was almost 2yo.
I was stubborn and determined and I did it. The experience has gifted me an insight into the intense challenge that it can be and how to support mummas as they embark on this journey, or how to support them emotionally if they are unable to continue.

Lyndelle Anson, manager of Geelong & Surfcoast Doula Services, will be joining us at our next circle (on Thursday 10th August)
We will still share around the circle as we do each week, but then Lyndelle will speak on her “top ten golden nuggets for birth” 💛 ✨
Lyndelle has 20 years of experience in the birth space and did Rhea Dempsey’s birthing wisdom course 11 years ago (with a newborn!) She has gone on to write and teach her own practically focused birth support course and also facilitates the Surfcoast chapter of Beer and Bubs (an education session for Dad's).
Lyndelle is a force of nature - smart, funny, compassionate and so incredibly invested in supporting parents and babies in our community. She has 5 children and 5 more “spirit babies” (all lost in 2nd trimester) that she openly speaks about and continues to honour. 💫🫶 She runs workshops on pregnancy loss and gosh…. Do you get the picture that she is a very busy person??

Not so long ago, before I stepped into the birth world, I was a Bellydance performer and teacher. With 20 years of shimmying and dancing through both my pregnancies I always knew these 2 worlds would collide sooner or later!
There are so many benefits to dancing in preparation to conception like increasing circulation in our pelvic region or dancing through pregnancy to connect to our body and increase movement.
