A teacher's view on how to develop students' critical thinking in the classroom:
- independent research by students on the topic gathering facts and not opinions
- followed by class discussion to form own opinion which can change as the discussion progresses
- then students write 3 reasons for their opinion: one opinion written on one sheet of paper with facts supporting that opinion
- students argue as a class their opinion
- they then write on a fourth sheet of paper the best argument they heard against their opinion and aim to rebut it
A Strategy for Teaching Students to Write Political Arguments Modeling how to disagree on political issues of interest to middle and high school students boosts their critical thinking and literacy skills.

NAIDOC Week starts TODAY!!! ❤️💛🖤 This year the theme is Heal Country, heal our nation.
Country is inherent to the identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.
It is more than a place. Country is spoken of like a person.
For generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of our culture and heritage for all Australians.
They continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
We’ll be sharing content from our partners across the week and insights from Bush Heritage staff working on our partnerships. Please tell us in the comments below what you’ll be doing for NAIDOC Week this year!
