⚠️ SUPERANNUATION SCAM ⚠️ We’ve seen an increase in superannuation phone and email scams that encourage you to invest in a ‘high performing’ self-managed super fund (SMSF).

Don’t provide any personal or financial information because these scammers can use this to steal your identity and take off with your super savings.

🛑 Beware of cold calls from people offering financial advice and always check who you are dealing with before providing any details.

If you or someone you know receives an SMS, email or letter from us about an SMSF that you didn’t establish contact us immediately on 13 10 20.

Employers: Remember the due date to provide your employees with their payment summaries is 14 July. As the date falls on a weekend this year, you have until the next business day to get it done.

You need to provide a payment summary to each employee even if you weren’t required to withhold any tax.

• Don’t click anywhere in the email! It’s malicious and will take you to a fake ‘Tax Refund’ form designed to steal your personal details.
• Forward the email to us at [email protected]
• Delete it and don’t respond to the sender.

You can be asked to give evidence to show why you’ve been away from work – even if you were only off sick for 1 day.

There are no strict rules on what counts as evidence, but it needs to be enough to ‘convince a reasonable person’ that you were sick. Medical certificates and statutory declarations are examples of acceptable types of evidence.

Base rates of pay to increase by 3.3%.

The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.3% increase to award wages and the national minimum wage.

The increase takes effect from the first full pay period that starts on or after 1 July 2017. The new national minimum wage will be $694.90 (up from $672.70) per week or $18.29 per hour (up from $17.70).

It usually takes the Commission 2-3 weeks to update the pay rates in each award.

Once they make these changes, we’ll update our pay tools with the new rates. Sign up to our email updates and we’ll notify you when the new rates are available in our pay tools.

SCAM ALERT! Fake emails claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) contain a link to malicious malware. This scam may affect small to medium businesses who regularly lodge BAS forms with the ATO.

Fake emails identified so far use the subject line ‘Your next Activity Statement is now’

These fake emails are sophisticated and use a web address that is reasonably close to the real ATO website (ato.gov.au). Email users need to be vigilant in checking the legitimacy of links in emails they receive in order to protect their personal information and devices.

If you receive this scam email, delete it immediately.

SCAM UPDATE: We continue to receive reports of scammers demanding money from people for fake tax debts with made up claims of evasion or fraud.

These scammers are now requesting payment via multiple types of pre-paid credit cards, gift cards and vouchers, such as those available from supermarkets and department stores. We will never request a payment via this method – it is a scam.

Make sure your family and friends are aware of this scam to keep them protected.
