❄️ Bracing for the cold snap ❄️

Got some SilK and DewSmart out on a trial site today in preparation for the expected cold weather in SEQ next week. With frosts likely, the Potassium should help strengthen the plant and the DewSmart should limit the impact of any frosts.

Keen to see how it fares 🥶

This week, I travelled out to All Turf Solutions to renovate their Primo Zoysia green in order to plant a new lawn for myself in our back pool yard.

Primo Zoysia is a Lawn Solutions Australia variety with characteristics that have seen it used on Golf Course Greens throughout the world. It has an ultra fine leaf blade and is suited to mowing heights from 3-10mm. It shows low thatch accumulation and is also considered a low maintenance turf variety. It is very fence and dark green in colour and I just had to find a spot for it on my property!

🎥 The Couch Trial to Watch in Australia 🎥

Come for a drive out to the Research Station at UQ Gatton to see the My Home Turf Couch Trial Site. The trial involves the following cultivars:
▪️IronCutter Elite Hybrid Bermuda
▪️Tahoma 31
▪️ TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda
▪️ Santa Ana
▪️ Wintergreen

In this episode, I’ll explain the trial layout and show you the tools and equipment being used to collect data. The plots have three nutrition treatments, courtesy of Icl SF Anz. Primo Maxx II Plant Growth Regulator has been applied by Syngenta Australia.

From this trial, we’ll be able to see the effect different nutrition regimes and the use of PGR has on turf colour, quality and vertical growth. Link to video in comments 👇🏼

🎥🍿 New Video - Renovating your Zoysia Lawn 🍿🎥

I filmed a late season Reno on my Zoysia plots (Sir Grange, Australis and Nara Native).

I provide a few tips about making sure you’re not without your beautiful, green zoysia lawn for long. I really think Zoysia will dominate the industry in years to come. Have a watch if you’ve got a few spare minutes. Link in comments 👇🏼

The Walker is back after a bit of love from Appletree Mowers. My husband may or may not have:
a) Bogged it
b) Run into a fence
c) Broke the catcher
d) Siezed the blower
e) All of the above

I took the opportunity to have the blade system changed over so it would cut lower. Now I can do a quick clean up pass out the front before cylinder mowing. Suprised how it striped it up on the first cut 😍

Massive thanks to Matt (and Rachel) from Appletree who is now retiring. All the best guys 💚☀️

Happy Sunday, Lawnies!

Back with the first YouTube video of the year! I was recently involved in the Ipswich Knights Football Club field upgrade.
The guys from Global Turf QLD and Old School Turf and Landscape reconstructed the field and irrigation system and then along with Allenview Turf, I arranged for the supply and install of 8,000m2 Wintergreen Couch.

It was a really fun experience being involved in such a large project. Link to video in comments 👇🏼

A different kind of Reno ☀️💚😅

I was out at the Bermudagrass Trial Plots at and have brought them all back down to dirt in preparation for the upcoming trials between and

Im so keen to learn more about turf and have always been interested in research trials, so to be part of an independent trial at the #1 Agricultural Science University in the Country is pretty exciting!

I’ve been given permission to film bits and pieces and will hopefully be able to share what is learned also.
Turf varieties installed are:
IronCutter Elite Hybrid Bermuda
Tahoma 31
TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda
Wintergreen
Santa Ana

Seven days after renovating the Hybrid Bermuda varieties.

The Tahoma 31 is not far off full coverage. Bit of blue couch to spray out as it had a year without borders, so a bit of contamination on the edges.

The TifTuf started moving a bit quicker on day 5. Interested to see the progress it makes this week.

The IronCutter plot had the thickest topdressing and also has the most vertical growth. It’s a mover!

All plots are showing nice colour. I’ll put the drone up for the day 14 photos. I’d say they’re due for a cut if I’m keeping them at 10mm. Unfortunately, there’ll be no video this weekend. It rained on filming day and I had to fix our ride-on mower yesterday so just ran out of time 🫠

🎥💚 New Episode - Renovating Hybrid Bermudagrass 💚🎥

The Tahoma 31 and TifTuf plots have been scalped, scarified and topdressed. The IronCutter is only 10 weeks old, so it had a scalp and groom instead, which meant I got to trial the new stainless steel grooming reel for the Predator from Yard Empire.

Each plot has been given 500g of ProTurf NPK, so I’m keen to see recovery timeframes.

What height do you think I should cut them at when they’re back? 🤔

🎥 New Video - GrassCel Porous Pavers 🎥

The time has finally come - I’ve installed the GrassCel Porous Pavers for the driveway. These will protect the root system and prevent vehicles from creating ruts when driving over the turf. I ended up scarifying the upper lawn and used those sprigs to plant out the driveway.

I’ll keep y’all updated on both the sprigs and how the driveway holds up over time.

💦 TriSmart Trifecta 💦

Now you know why the soil wetter is so good 😏 So pleased to announce we’ve got full licence to use the ICL Trademarks on the product range.

Here’s a look at the new TriSmart Soil Wetter labels. More to come as part of the new website launch 🚀

Shout-out to this absolute legend of a human - Dan from
He’s put in so many hours getting my plot borders perfect. We did it all by eye when we installed the turf, so he’s had to work with what we gave him and I think it’s looking great. It’s in desperate need of water, but we know it won’t take long to bounce back.

I’m so pleased to have Dan on-board as a contractor for turf prep and installation in South-East QLD. He’s a qualified Greenkeeper and has so much experience behind him, including bowling green and sports field construction. Can’t speak highly enough. Expect to see him in the upcoming Primo Zoysia Putting Green construction video.

28/10/2023

Sorry Team, but I won’t be able to get a video up this weekend.

I’ll film an update for you and you’ll see why. There’s been a bit going on 😅

In the next few weeks:
- sprigging the driveway using the Scarifier
- Drainage and Putting Green construction feat.
- Full irrigation design and install feat. and
- Primo Zoysia Putting Green install feat.

Throw in a bit of a reno on 1,500m2 of turf after that and I’d say I’ll be ready to take a break over Christmas….

23/10/2023

👀

Im told it’s two years between photos (top one is not mine). This accurately reflects the state of the lawn though. It’s been a lot of work, but finally starting to feel like I’m getting somewhere after moving here just under 18 months ago.

🎥🍿 New Video - Check out the new Solo Battery Sprayer Range 🍿🎥

After years of trying different brands, I’ve come back to SOLO Sprayers Australia for a few reasons.
1. They’re being made in Germany 🇩🇪
2. They have a new shape where there’s an extra reservoir so the pickup tube goes right down to the bottom
3. The pump and switch are now at the top of the unit for easy access/maintenance.

After two tests, I was left with only approx. 100mL of liquid after spraying. Such a simple, but effective design upgrade.

I’m tipping this new range to be the one to beat! Watch to see my review and initial impressions

🎥 A Lawn Renovation can SAVE Your Lawn 🎥

New episode where I head back to to fix up their lawn. You may remember they had significant lawn grub damage shortly after installing, followed by Couch Mite and W**d infestations.

So, watch as we hit the reset button and breathe new life into their lawn with a Renovation. Massive thankyou to the team at Rock 'N' Soil for providing these guys with the USGA/Amendmax topdress blend.

🎥 New Video 🎥

Turfing this Barn Yard has been a long time coming. I’m so thankful to Marcus and George from Mochas and Mowers (Insta) for helping me install 1,000m2 of turf. I was a bit overwhelmed when that truck rolled up, that’s for sure!

The additions to the turf plots in this video are:
IronCutter Elite Hybrid Bermuda
Nara Native Zoysia
Thankyou to both My Home Turf and Australian Lawn Concepts Turf Farm 🙌🏼

We also installed Wintergreen Couch as the surrounds. Stay tuned until the end of the video to find out what’s coming up on the channel. Slight hint - ⛳️

Fresh cut on the Sir Grange Zoysia plot at 15mm. Root Guard and concrete borders go in tomorrow and then a topdress to level.

I’m a Bermudagrass tragic, but I keep finding myself standing in front of this particular plot. How’s the serenity. It’s just the vibe.

This got me right in the feels when it arrived today 🥹

(One of) our beautiful dog(s) Harley passed away a few months ago. We first got him back in 2015 to keep me company while my husband served in Afghanistan, so you could say I’ve been a bit devastated to lose him.

I haven’t posted anything on my LCA account, but can appreciate when businesses go the extra mile, so thought this was worthy of a shout-out considering he also loved doing zoomies around a fresh cut lawn.

Thank you for sending this thoughtful gift out to us. We won’t forget it ❤️🐶

💦 The importance of Soil Wetters this season💦

Straight from the BoM:
“Climate models indicate this El Niño is likely to persist until at least the end of February. El Niño typically leads to reduced spring and early summer rainfall for eastern Australia”

So, we’re going to get less rainfall and it’s going to be hotter. Therefore, if you haven’t already incorporated a soil wetter into your lawn care program, you need to look into it.

There’s a range of soil wetters on the market, but it’s important you understand how they work. Some people are using penetrant wetters designed to ‘push through’, thinking that they’ve got water holding qualities. A lot of those products are better used as carriers for things like fungicides and amendments to get them into the soil. Speak to your supplier and make sure you’re getting the right soil wetter for your lawn. Each brand will have options, so don’t just go with what’s popular. It might not suit you and your situation.

This one makes me happy…
Shannon is a regular customer and came for a visit and a chat on Monday. He had some yellowing in his lawn and wasn’t happy with the colour. I gave him some of the new Iron product to try. He seems pretty chuffed with the results at 50g/100m2 🔥🔥🔥

Photos from Lawn Care Australia's post 29/09/2023

☀️🌱Tahoma 31 🌱☀️

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’ve got evidence to back it. excels as a low maintenance, high cut turf variety 👌🏻

I’ve got a plot out the back and I’ve let the left side grow for 2-3 months without being cut. The right side is cut every month at 30mm. It hasn’t been fertilised since November and is lucky to be watered once a fortnight. Check out the natural colour. It’s surrounded by a mix of Carpet Grass, Blue Couch and Green Couch and it’s a much nicer colour and doesn’t grow as tall either.
Definitely a great option for those who don’t want to mow all the time:
✅ FIFO workers
✅ Those who don’t own a mower - get a contractor in but not as often
✅ Builders - put a couch down that only needs a mow for real estate photos. It’s not going to grow through garden beds, etc.
