Installation of timber driven piles is well underway on the Wilsons River Cycleway in Lismore. The tight site conditions directly adjacent to the river require the earth retention to be constructed ahead of the machine to enable the works to proceed safely. The works will repair the existing foundation that was damaged in the March 2017 floods, opening the space back up to the public.

PCA Ground Engineering is continuing to put the finishing touches on the Kingsford Smith Road Upgrade project. Three sites are being stabilised with anchors, shotcrete and then faced with stone pitching along this vital piece of road infrastructure.

Kingsford Smith Drive is a major gateway to Brisbane City and PCA Ground Engineering are proud to be involved with such an iconic project that will welcome visitors to Brisbane and be a major artery for local residents for decades to come.

Baseline Retaining Systems - Built Better

PCA Ground Engineering has been awarded the design and construction package for two piled shafts as part of the Grey Street Sewerage Upgrade project. The contiguous CFA piled shafts are temporary works for the 6m diameter wet well and 3m diameter grit chamber extending down 18m through saturated soft clays into the underlaying rock.

Contiguous CFA piles were chosen due to the space restrictions on site which limited the piling rig size and ability to install a traditional secant pile wall to full depth through the relatively hard rock below 10m depth. To prevent water ingress through the small gaps between the piles, PCA is using an innovative high pressure grouting system which will be installed between each of the contiguous CFA piles.

The design process also saw a considerable amount of innovation which took away the need for any temporary bracing or anchors and allows the relatively confined shafts to be excavated without restrictions.

PCA Ground Engineering are completing the second stage of the historic Briner Bridge upgrade. After vibrating in the outer steel casings to depth in the upper sections of the piles, the same rig was then used to vibrate in the steel “H Beams” before swapping attachments to drive them to the required set.

Utilising the one machine with multiple attachments to both vibrate and drive piles of various sizes and shapes provides efficiency gains through reduced mobilisation costs particularly on regional and remote sites.

• Participate and support in industry best practice, health, safety and environmental initiatives.
• Carry out Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities within the design team.

The preferred candidate will also have the following skills and attributes;

• A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
• The successful candidate will ideally have a three to five years work experience preferably in the field of civil, foundation or slope stability projects. However, Graduate Engineers who are passionate about a career in civil construction are encouraged to apply.
• It will be essential the successful candidate has a “Can Do” attitude, we are looking for a new team member that seeks solutions and helps solve problems.
• Candidates that have had experience in the ground engineering sector will be favourably considered. This includes such areas of design such as piled foundations and/or slope stability.
• The candidate should be reasonably proficient in the use of AutoCAD, MS Project (or similar) and MS Office programs.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills are a mandatory requirement for this role. Candidates may be asked to provide examples of written reports or other written works as part of the interview process.
• The candidate must be able to travel for work as required. Although this is not a regular FIFO position, travel and working rosters on projects away from head office will be part of the job.
