Congratulations Richard Norton – Winner of “Stellar Yoga Award 2021”

The Reward for this Achievement:
• Old Paris Café $25 Gift Voucher – Enjoy sumptuous crepes and coffee/tea for breakfast/lunch
• Scented Candle – Symbol of candidate’s personal journey to discover their inner light.
• Yoga Stellar Award Certificate – Awarded to 1 exceptional student from Beginner & Intermediate yoga classes, who has shown consistency and personal growth within their practice throughout the year.

At the beginning of 2018, is when Richard initially attended yoga lessons to provide moral support for his partner who had just started her yoga classes with Inspirational Yoga with Tara. At the time, Richard was contented with his own physical fitness and personal development in the discipline of Tai Chi, devoting 11 years to being coached on a weekly basis. Even today, Richard still maintains his weekly classes in Tai Chi, as well as getting up at 4am each morning and commit to his daily practice.
Adapting and adopting to different breathwork and breathing techniques set-out in yoga classes each week, and being able to move fluently within these parameters, meant that Richard needed to be open-minded in order to cope with this change. Over the past year, I have noticed significant progress in Richard’s yoga practice on the mat, where he has gained more strength and flexibility through his body. This serves as a testament towards his personal development to change, since any improvement in flexibility needs to start in the mind first and foremost, long before it can be manifested in the physical body.

Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to present this year’s “Stellar Yoga Award 2021” to Richard Norton, honouring his mental, physical and spiritual progress attained in his practice of yoga.

Private Classes – Conquering Sciatica Nerve & Lower Back Pain – A Customer’s Story
Karen was searching for a yoga instructor that could meet her physical needs when she discovered ‘Inspirational Yoga with Tara’ through a FB post that resonated with her understanding of yoga. On a daily basis, Karen would struggle with lower back pain from osteo arthritis and a rotation in her spine in the lower and upper regions which had jammed together restricting movement; together with sciatica nerve pain that sends sharp shooting pains down through her legs, feet & toes. Also, she has post operation conditions relating to her stomach and has heart disease. Therefore, she knew that she would require private yoga lessons to help manage her pain threshold, and improve mobility and flexibility. It was agreed to be most beneficial to conduct 2 sessions per week. A discounted rate was negotiated for 10 lessons paid in advance. Over the past year, she had worked with another private yoga instructor, but found she experienced more physical pain and agony at the end of each lesson than when she first started. Therefore the onus was now on me to improve her health issues and pain management.

From the 1st 2 lessons, Karen was unable to do a number of beginner poses. It was necessary therefore to change up the yoga lessons to accommodate for her physical disposition. Her yoga classes were gentle and specifically designed for sufferers with back issues, where Karen did receive some relief from her lower back pain, though she still suffered with the sciatic nerve pain. Not satisfied, I went back to the drawing board, researched various sciatica nerve pain conditions and devised suitable exercises to resolve this problem. By the end of the 9th lesson, I received an SMS message providing feedback from Karen. Please see attachment.
Karen not only was feeling the benefits, but her physiotherapist (whom she visited twice a week) confirmed that Karen’s spine was showing more movement and straightening from the Yoga Classes - ONLY AFTER 9 LESSONS. This was unexpected and exciting news to receive; equally exciting for the customer to experience their own success in their own practice of yoga. The client is now looking forward to stepping up her practice and breaking through to a higher level within her yoga training.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge to help others with similar conditions - seeking relief through the practice of yoga, meditation and general exercising. Please contact Tara for a consultation or to make a private booking on Mobile: 0404-446 857.😀

How Yoga Inspired Me?

Before I discovered the bounties of yoga, I was a physical mess, learning how to manage bodily pain as a scoliosis sufferer (curvature in the spine). Every morning I woke up to debilitating lower back and hip pain, where it was literally a struggle to get out of bed. My only option was to physically roll onto the floor first, then do floor exercises to generate blood flow to my spine. Only then could I actually lift myself up and get on with my day. Lifestyle demands of working in an office, sitting in front of a computer for long hours over a period of 25 years or more, exacerbated the scoliosis condition - weakening my upper back, core strength and did absolutely zilch for my flexibility. When I discovered yoga in 2015, my quality of lifestyle has since been dramatically changed for the better. Although my condition is incurable, the practice of yoga has improved and completely transformed me, teaching me not to allow my back pain and physical weakness define or limit me.

Through a mutual friend, I was introduced to a wonderful Ashtanga Yoga Instructor, whose knowledge and tutoring ignited a passion and love for yoga. Although I learnt many yoga techniques, I still needed to listen to my own body to find my own way of practicing yoga. When I persisted with this, I found greater satisfaction and relief at the end of each class. I started practicing more than 1 hour 5 days a week. This helped with pain management and removal of flexibility blockages, enabling me to feel uplifted, strengthened and energized. As soon as I was able to get my head around the concept of the Mind, Body & Soul connection - I was able to catapult my yoga practice. Going from ‘0’ (zero) never practicing yoga in my life, to standing on my head in Sirsasana posture with under 3 months. Wow, I was truly amazed!!! It’s funny as I joked with my instructor saying, “You’ll never be able to get me to do that within this lifetime” - and there I was 3 months later – standing on my head.

This was a defining ‘lightbulb’ moment for me, where I thought to myself, “wow, I can actually do this”? “No, not just be able to stand on my head, but can actually do yoga and be an instructor?” I signed up for my 200 hours training, to become an Akhanda Yoga Instructor. I completed this course at the end of December 2015 and haven’t looked back since then.
